Well, so far, at least for the key I bought, I have not gotten the remote start to work with it. There are a couple of variations out there that you could try and see if remote start works. I guess an alternative would be to use this key and then get the remote keyfob, but that does seem a bit silly.

Aftermarket starters are 1000x better and better range than factory anyway, I can see how you wouldn't want a key with buttons and a remote start fab but the range on the key/fab combo aren't near good enough for my remote start range and pageback needs.

Well it isn't looking good for the remote start switchblade key combo! I emailed the seller and directed him to the Ford Acc page with the remote key and he doesn't truly understand the concept. He refers back to the IC chip which is identical to the OEM Ford remote. That tells me that it will be the same as the OEM key we get with the truck without factory installed remote start! Here is a question however, since it was not an option to have it factory installed on my XLT, for the ones that it was, did you only get 2 keys or did you get 4 keys on delivery? The reason I ask this if you only got 2 keys and they both had the remote button then maybe, just maybe they are different than the ones I have by adding it from the Ford Accessories. Could this explain why it has been reported that it does work for some and not others?? So for me it comes down to %'s. How often do I use the remote start? 5% of the time! How often is the key digging into my leg, scratching other things I have in that pocket and getting stuck when I try to pull them out? 95% of the time! So this is my thought, I will go ahead and get two of these, one for the Mustang and one for the F150. I will highly doubt it will work with the remote start of my setup! Now what would be great is if someone that had the remote start from factory looks at this the same way and goes for the switchblade setup,,, I would be interested if theirs does work as I doubt mine will but then again how do I use the remote start? Mostly to start it in the morning on my way out, so I can just use the key I already have for that and leave it in the bedroom and as Sultan has stated it really isn't very good for range so it isn't like I can use it to start it from 1000 feet which I can see as being useful. If you are getting off work no matter where you are in the building, or shopping, out for dinner or whatever,, you can start your truck so it is comfortable when you get in. My range seems to be much better than most that have reported about the factory remote start but it is not even close to the aftermarket ones I have had. So since this is the case the way I look at it is I will no longer have the problem with the key digging into my leg, I can still start the truck anytime I am at home and for that matter I could cut the key off one of the remotes and carry that if I want to use it away from home. I know that may seem strange but I will have 4 keys with remotes laying around the house that I will never use anyway once I get the switchblade.

I bought this same key http://www.ebay.com/itm/300704604341...84.m1439.l2649
Cut and programmed no problem, but I was hoping that I could program the trunk button to remote start it. But it would not start it after using Codetech Services directions on programming.

Did you by chance have a Factory installed remote start or did you add it as I did? I would like to know since my theory is it may work with a factory installed remote start and not the add on that I got from Ford Accessories! This would at least answer the question on the factory installed side. Here is my plan, I am getting both a 3 and 4 button remote. I will try to see if I can get either of them to work or if I can Mod it to work. If so I will have the answer of yeah or nah on the add on remote start. As I say this I don't mean the aftermarket ones I mean the one that comes from Ford. I will keep both either way since as I stated, 95% of the time I will be completely satisfied and if I see the absence of the remote start bug me I will cut off the key and just take the fob! If you did have the factory installed remote start and got a 4 button remote then that would answer my theory. If not has anyone with the factory installed remote start tried these remotes? Also does the factory installed remote start come with 2 or 4 keys???
At least I went from 2 fob's and a key to 1 fob(remote start) and a key

Just to clarify, I was talking about getting the key to work with the factory remote start capability. I only received 2 keys from the factory, both as pictured in the original post. I was told that is how many you get(FWIW, it's pretty lame that they cheap out on a valet key, but I'll spare you the rant...)
It is my understanding that the four button remote, if you have a Ford car, will work as intended for each button, and my key does work for the three main ones. What I have read, some people who have purchased the three button remote(I am not sure which variety) get the remote start(I assume factory installed) to work by pushing the lock button one or two additional times. When I do this, the truck just keeps beeping to indicate the alarm is set.
I drew the same conclusions that you did. For the small amount of the time that I will use remote start, I would much rather carry the switchblade key and not have remote start all the time than have a pointy key in my pocket all the time for the rare occasions when I might use the remote start.
