Default 6'5" bed cap on 5'5" bed

Has anyone done something like this, put a 6.5 cap on a 5.5 bed? I was thinking of putting a deck on the top of the bed, and sandwich it between the rails and cap so it extends back to the end of the cap. Put it such a way that the tail gate can still be opened.

Reason for such a crazy idea, I came across a Leer HighRise for free, but its for a 6.5 bed.

Sure it would work...... and look pretty stupid. The cap would be hanging out the back a foot!!! I don't see why you would want that.

My buddy picked up a free 8 foot cap once for a 6' 5 box on his 90's Ford F150. He cut the front 1 1/2 feet off or whatever with a sawz all and used a piece of plywood to fill the front part after.

Looked hilarious but it worked great for what he needed and best part - it was free.

When your 20 and broke you do these things lol.

Crazy idea here ... but how about taking the 6.5' cap, selling it for whatever you can get for it, to someone with a 6.5' bed ... THEN ... and here's the crazy part ... Use that money towards a 5.5' cap for your truck.

Like I said, I know that's really nuts, but it JUST might work ...

I think you'd have about a foot of overhang.

He said it better then I would have.

It would look straight up retarded......
Unless it's for transporting something in the rain from point A to B.....
I wouldn't do it.

Take it , resell it, and get the $$$ for the right size cap.
I just bought my 5.5' Century Ultra Sport used for 1/3rd new

I did something similar. Had a 92 stepside chev and found a free stepside cap. Must have been from a ford. Was a solid 2 inches longer. But once it was painted to match the rest of the truck (flatblack) it looked just as ****ty as the rest.
