iPhone Bluetooth Audio Streaming to SYNC

iPhone Bluetooth Audio Streaming to SYNC
I tried searching for a similar thread before posting, and nothing like my issue appeared
I recently bought a 2013 F-150. I do not have touch sync, just regular old sync. I was able to pair my iPhone to sync via Bluetooth. Incoming and outgoing phone calls work fine over sync and audio is ok (definitely not crisp!). However, the phone's sounds and streaming audio do not play on truck speakers. The iPhone says it is set to SYNC (verses iPhone or airplay output) and phone's Bluetooth volume is maxed out, and I hear nothing from the truck. Truck volume is up too. Every once in a great while I have gotten audio out of Sync, but I have like a 5% success rate.
What am I missing? Is there a setting I need to enable on the truck? I am not using a USB cable at this point while trying to use BT. Searching the internet takes me to Ford owners website (I have an account there) and always to a Touch SYNC article which I don't have.
Thanks!

Hi joshuaw,
Congrats on your purchase! You must switch the audio source to Bluetooth Audio to stram media from your phone. You can simply use the voice command BLUETOOTH AUDIO after pressing the VOICE button: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...ands-work.html
Hope this helps!

Thank you! That was easy enough.
Now the only issue is whenever the new mail sound, text message sound, or phone locking/unlocking sound plays, SYNC wants to treat it as a phone call, so radio or satellite music is muted and the phone sound plays. The "call" lasts for about 6 seconds, then ends, then music resumes. I thought it may fade the music while sound is playing.

You're welcome, joshuaw! Bluetooth Audio streams all auduio from your phone through the car speakers. That's the reason for your notifications coming through. Feel free to reach out in the future if you need assistance.

joshuaw,
That process is actually done on the phone. SYNC only does Bluetooth Audio when you change the source. On the iPhones, you have to disable AirPlay: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204289

I just got a 2014 got the latest sync update, and I learned so far that if I turn off the stereo power then turn the truck off. When restart and turn the stereo on it will default to LINE IN. Phone remains connected via BT.
If you leave the stereo on, play music from BT, and turn the truck off, it should still be connected to phone audio the next time you turn it on.
Another scenario I learned is playing music via BT. Left the truck on with music playing from my phone. took the phone with me inside to see the customer, out of BT range. Got back into the truck, it was in LINE IN.

Good info here. I also have a 2013 with the same version. My audio is fine, but I have yet to find a way to query Siri while connected to the truck via Bluetooth. The phone just can't hear me.
