Yes it will trickle charge while using it if you have the screen locked. I have had my iPad mini in my truck for over three weeks now and it is only at 69% and I haven't been locking my screen to let it charge some. My previous post shows how I power down the unit using the Accessibility option on the iPad. You can hold the lock screen to shut the unit down as well.

Thanks, this is what I was curious about. If I can go 2 months before charging...I'm great with that.
I think that I'm going to go with the mini as I don't have to butcher the dash.
Any regrets going with the mini over the full size?

Then you will see the little box pop up in the corner of the screen on the iPad you can move this around to wherever you would like. Then whenever you click on the little box you get all these functions you can use. Mostly for lock screen for me. Also you can hold the lock screen button to power down just like the physical button.
So how do you power back up?

Once your unit is shut off the next time you get a power cycle from turning your truck on or turning the key to the on position the power charge will turn the unit back on.

No regrets at all....I actually had a full size ipad mounted to the outside of my dash and to be honest i liked it but i think a little too big for the dash. Plus like you I didnt want to try and hack all that away to try and make it work

Default Questions

Where did you get the plastic trim pieces, and what kind did you use?
What glue and bondo did you use?
Would you do anything different if you had wood grain trim kit on your dash, as far as bondo/prep work?

Ordered my dash kit yesterday.

Question

What is the link to the "DashCommand" app? Nothing came up when I searched for it in the app store from my Macbook Air.
