First oil change in 2013 5.0L
Well I completed my first oil change in the new 5.0L Sunday at 4750 miles. I figured I would do it early as I usually do with any new vehicle. Next one will be at 8-10k interval. But wow, this has to be one of the easiest vehicles I've ever owned to perform an oil change on! The filter is super easy to get to by going up underneath, and I loved the built-in drip pan they put in there as well. Changed out with new Motorcraft and their 5W-20 syn blend oil. That stuff is like water, it kind of freaked me out a bit, I won't lie. That and the fact that this beast takes almost 8 friggen quarts of oil. Kind of expensive oil change.

So why not full Syn?
The debate is still out that the 13's supposedly came with full syn? The manual shows it as compatible but I have yet to see any proof that the 13's have full syn.
Either way, I am going to go your route with the blend.

Cool! Glad you got the first one out of the way! I plan on doing exactly the same as you and doing the first change at 5k with syn blend. The first change is free from the dealership, and you best believe I'll be watching them. LOL
Did you notice any oil loss at 5k? Just wondered as some have reported some oil usage.

Thanks for the post, haven't even looked under this one or put it on my lift yet. Still recovering from my accident, but I now have 92 miles on it. So it wil be a while until I'm ready to change the oil.
Some of the new oils are really thin when compared to what was used just a few years ago. Makes you wonder if the bearings will survive with the lighter oil. The old Ford "cammer" motors recommended W30-50 Pennz racing oil for their racing units. You wouldn't even get the oil warmed up before you made a pass on the quarter mile.

The short answer is price. Nothing else really. Plus it was Motorcraft brand oil so I feel confident that it will be just fine in my truck, and it was the oil recommended in the owners manual.

I have spent thousands over the years on syn oil for my rides. This time around I have a truck, not a turbo, not a sportscar, not anything more than a truck.
She will receive the factory blend as well.
