Bought a new compressor for the shop this spring. Got a great deal on a 120 gallon IR. So I out the old 60 gallon craftsmen on CL.
First guy calls and is real interested. Comes to look at it with his buddy. They kinda were acting a little off to me so I walked in the office got my phone.
After looking at it for a few minutes the guys tone changed and he explained to me this was the compressor he had stolen from his garage 10 years ago.
Mind you I purchased the compressor new at sears around 7 years ago. I kinda chuckled at the guy at first thinking he might be pulling my leg.
He continues to up the ante by informing me he is taking back what is his now. As him and his buddy attempted to pick the compressor up and walk out the garage door with it I kinda snapped.
Skipping the gory parts, both of them ended up zip tied in my driveway until the cops showed up.
I made sure to post their names photos and phone numbers on Craigslist, in case they tried their charade again.
Wife says no more Craigslist for me. Lol.

I had that happen to be when buying a car.
Offered the guy his asking price. He accepted! Asked if I could get him cash to hold it till the next day. He said nope, I'll hold it. Sent him a text the next day to meet up and he said he already sold it.
To make it even worse, the seller was a cop and I went to school with the sob!

I sold a car recently on cars.com. First people to come look at it got our of their car and said they wanted it. I told them they at least had to check it over and drive it first. They said no and they would take it. I insisted they drive it to make sure they liked it. They did and they did. They wanted to leave me a deposit so I would hold it until they got a certified check. I politely declined and told them a handshake was good enough for a deposit.
I took the car home and detailed it, filled it with gas and replaced the wipers. Next morning they picked up their new car and were thrilled.
I think that is how you should treat people.

Jokes aside I get replies like that..... and I think the guys are serious lol.... because most get angry if you tell them not to waste your time lol.
I had 2 clowns that really stand out recently. One was a car I wanted $4500 for which was cheap...... and he offered $2500. I replied " Sure I can do $2500 but I get to kick you in the ***** until you pass out. Sound like a good deal?" Never got a reply back and the car sold the next day for full asking price to someone else.
Another was a guy who went full retard on me when I told him to stop emailing me as I wasn't the seller ( the seller was an older friend who is not internet saavy) and just call the guy. He lost it..... started threatening me..... admitted he was a convict sitting in some halfway house with no phone access and then took a photo of all the cash on a table for the engine he wanted with a note that said "Poor John" in the middle of it. John was the engines owner....... I am glad he didn't buy it..
You meet all kinds.

i bought my bike off craigslist. i went and saw the bike but was waiting for my income tax check to come in so i asked the guy if i could put down a deposit. wrote him a check for 500. few days later i got the money and went to drop the rest of it off. he hadnt cashed the deposit check so he gave it back to me and i wrote him a check for the full amount. most interesting part...i gave him the check and he gave me the bike right then. didnt wait for the check to clear or anything. good man to deal with.

I found a guy selling a set of OEM trailer tow mirror (w/ power fold) takeoffs, from a 2013 F-150. I inquired and after going back and forth we agreed to a price, and a date and time to meet.
This morning he emails me and says he was offered more than the price we agreed to, and he cannot turn it down.
Does anyone else think that's incredibly shady?
And just before this email, I waited over an hour in a gas station parking lot for a guy who was buying a set of FX4 headlight/taillight assemblies from me. He never showed, and won't return texts or calls.
Sorry, just had to rant.

Plus money is a different deal all together. Maybe he really needed the extra cash. I'm not going to fault someone who's hard up for the cash.
You can also look at it another way. If YOU had found a better deal from someone else would you have bought it from them instead?
Now you're initial answer might be, "of course not, I'm a man of my word and integrity!", BUT...what's your price threshold...everybody has got one and it's all relative.
You might not wound your integrity over $20-$50, but what if it was $100 or $500 or $1000. This is all dependent on the cost of the item of course, but if it's a matter of integrity price should theoretically make no difference, but it does.
So if while negotiating this guy down to an agreed upon price, you are simultaneously still looking on Craigslist and come across identical mirrors someone else is selling for $100 less.
Are you a man of your word and literally spend $100 more to keep your word? Or, do you call the first guy up and explain that you found a better deal and back out?
If you backed out and for many people $100 would be worth backing out then the OTHER GUY would be on here ranting!
I understand the frustration, but I can see it from their position as well.
