Default I have a Sync update available.

I have a 2009 F150 screw 2wd. I the registered truck through ford and they prompted me saying I have a sync update and it has to be brought to the dealer.

Now get this. I call my local stealership and the guy says it will take 2 hours and it will cost $100 plus tax.

Call me crazy but this sounds absurd. Has anyone else delt with this?

Well yes and no...

I have done the update on my truck...at home via laptop, usb memory stick and internet.
It does take about an hour or so for all the data transfers so why is doing it yourself not an option?

Is this a SYNC only system or SYNC w/ MFT? Which version of the software are you on now? Which versus does the web page state is the recommended current version?

It's an 09, did they have mft then? I don't think so. It's probably gen 2 like my 2010. All you need is a usb drive and to download the update to it and follow the directions I posted.

Hi everyone,

I just want to jump in and confirm that some updates and upgrades, for any of our SYNC systems, may require a dealership visit. This is not out of the ordinary.

@dtanis25 - Are you experiencing any concerns with your current software? If not, you do not have to have it updated; if you are, let me know what they are and we can troubleshoot them.

Rebecca

My last update had to be done at the dealership. It was free because I was under warranty.

Your truck is 5 years old, you are paying for shop time. Thats why its so expensive. If your happy with how its working I wouldnt bother.

Sounds like it might be more than just a software update. my wife's 2009 Mariner went in for an update not long after we got it. I did a couple updates since then on my own with a usb stick.

Everything works fine. I thought it may have been an update to fix the default to bluetooth audio issue.

I'd pay a thousand dollars if ya'll could fix that....
