UPDATE!

I'm still trying to figure out if this really happened, or not.

Monday, I dropped the truck off at Mac Haik and I gave the service advisor a quick history of what ANF did and didn't do. Then I showed him the video of the wobbling drive shaft.

Yesterday, I go to get the truck. When I go talk to Josh, the service advisor, he tells me that I need to go see the cashier to get my truck. He told me that his shop foreman, and a tech DROVE the truck and the foreman said the shake is a "normal characteristic" of the truck!

After waiting for about 10 minutes for the foreman to come talk to me, I asked him exactly what they did with the truck. He said they drove it. I asked him if they even put it up on a rack and looked at the drive shaft, that I took video of, wobbling. He said no, they just drove it because the drive shaft was wobbling, in the video, because of the leaf springs!

This guy didn't seem to have the communication skills, that God gave a potato, nor the intelligence. I tried to explain to him that when we took that video, the axle of the truck was on jack stands, and it was in low gear; there's no way the leaf springs could cause the drive shaft to wobble as it turned. I just got a blank stare.

This is beyond frustrating. It's a damn shame when you show them what the problem could be and they won't even look at it.

Someone mentioned that there are some Ford CS Reps that monitor this site.
How long does it take before they step in to help?
I'm about to start replacing stuff on my dime ... which no one should have to do on a truck with 1,100 miles on it!

Wow that's insane! Their has to be a better dealer around that will actually do something for you.

I have been using Planet Ford and so far I feel like they have gone the distance for me

Just reach out to them. They are on this forum as FORDSERVICE or FORDSERVICECA. They are also on TWITTER as FordService or FordServiceCA. However, they are no different then calling the 1-800 number.

They will contact the dealership, the dealership will tell them that they diagnosed the problem as a normal characteristic of the truck. And the 1-800 number will call you back and tell you it's a normal characteristic of the truck.

I guess I have a couple questions, I agree you hate the truck because you feel that 2 dealers cant fix a vibration?
Did you test drive it before you bought it? Was the vibration not there on the test drive?
You said you drove multiple other trucks LIKE yours and they ALL had the same vibration? Yet most of the dealer employees don't FEEL your vibration? Or say its normal?
What did you trade in or drive before the F150? Maybe it IS normal. Just saying. Maybe its not. It's also hard for us to feel see what you are saying on here to help.

My thing is if you went to the dealer and drove multiple other trucks LIKE YOURS, same cab, bed, 4x4, engine, etc and they were all the same. I would say maybe it IS normal. You can't compare a 4x4 and an FX2 for the same ride. They are in fact different.

Wish you were closer, maybe we could get it figured out

Subscribing, curious for some results!!!!!

Sloans,
Yes, I test drove it, but I went into the dealership knowing exactly what I wanted. My test drive, I thought, was just a technicality. It was short, and I never got it up fast enough to feel the shake.

The other trucks did have the same shake. Different severities, but it was there. The first operations manager did feel it. When new tires didn't fix it, he basically said this is as good as it's gonna get and we're not looking at anything else.

I traded in a 2010 F150 Lariat 2WD.

If they really believe that it is normal for a truck to shake, Ford makes a ****ty product and everyone up the ladder has been conditioned to say this because none of their engineers can figure out why the trucks do this. NO brand new vehicle should shake going down the road. If you disagree, please explain your opinion ... maybe you can convince me that this is an acceptable characteristic of modern vehicles.

I do feel like this is partially my fault. I did not spend enough time "looking" at the truck. If I would have driven all the other shaking trucks, before all this and the dealers told me it was normal, I would not have bought another Ford, period.

I've already been talking to another dealer (not Ford), preparing for a worst case scenario ... trading the truck in. They offered me $33-34k on trade. I don't want to take a $10,000 hickey on this deal, but if I can't get this truck to quit shaking, there's no way in hell I'm going to drive it for very long. I guess I can try to sell it outright and take a little less of a loss, if it comes to that.

TT - I didn't see where you may have mentioned bed length. I've had a few issues with my '11 and mentioned to the dealer I really wanted the 6.5' bed. The SA told me it was a good thing i didn't get it..they have seen all kinds of issues with the 2 piece drive shaft in the 6.5' bed + crew cab. Best of luck getting it fixed.

Mine's a crew cab with the 5.5' bed ... one piece driveshaft.

got my truck back last night from ANFK and it still shakes. its less severe but its there.
sheet said "road test, balance, road test, rotate, run out check" in that order so my guess is they just did some **** and said "good enough for government work" and gave it back to me.
I have run out numbers for the tires on the print out but no idea what acceptable limits are.
The identical silver STX I had as a loaner for 2 days was w/o a doubt smoother. I'm leaning towards it being a driveshaft issue for me too. as the steering wheel is vibration free but the passenger seat w/o an occupant movers about 2"s side to side from the vibration.

also pissed that they returned my truck to me filthy inside from their nasty *** dirt back lot. but gotta pick your battles...

One thing you can try, not sure if it still has it but the rear end pinion yoke where the driveshaft bolted to the differential had several threaded holes, you can rotate the drive shaft around until the shake stops or gets better, we used to do that all the time.

Put a mark where you start so you have that as a reference point.

Do you have a local drive shaft shop? If so call them and see how much it would be to balance yours.

Yeah it sucks that you have to do this but you have spent more time and money dealing with your dealerships. If this fixes it then it will be well worth it.
