How's She Doing After The First Oil Change
So my truck now has 8300km on it and just got its first oil change so here's an update on how its performing so far.
In short its doing great. Took it to the Ford Dealer for its first oil change and got the green light that everything was just fine. I have read some posts about the 5.0 using a bit of oil especially during the first couple thousand kilometers, I asked the dealer how my truck was for oil consumption and they told me I used less than half a quart; after 8000km I'd say thats pretty good. I havn't noticed anything strange from the engine or transmission, drives just as good as it did when I brought it home just over 2 months ago (knock on wood). I will say though that these 5.0L's do losen up a little bit after 5-6000km (in my experience anyway). I felt that after that time the engine was a lot more eager to work and climb up the rev range. I also have found its exhaust note got deeper and more pronounced. This could be because all of the factory coatings and what not have been burned off (no more strange smell from the underside of the truck like it had when it was brand new). The truck pulls like a freight train everytime I need it to, no hesitation and no hiccups in power and it loves cruising down the highway. I find that at WOT and right around 4000rpm you can really feel it climb onto the cam and it pulls harder and sings in a totally new key, its a lot of fun. I'm still getting an average of around 12.3L/100km (about 19 mpg) right now and thats good enough for me! Now that its broken in I can't wait for next summer when the all seasons go back on and the warmer weather comes to see how improved my mileage will be.
We haven't had much snow here yet, it keeps coming and going, looks like a green Christams this year. But when there has been snow on the road the snow tires and the traction control work just fine getting the truck moving (its rwd). Granted I havn't had it in anything deeper then a couple inches so far but I'm sure more will come in the next few months.
I should also mention that while I was waiting for the oil change to be completed the guy who sold me my truck let me take a demo ecoboost Scab 4X2 3.73 out for a quick drive. That truck had just over 3000km on it. I do have to say that it was a rocket (after about 1500rpm) and I admit I had a brief moment of "why didn't I get this engine". But once I got back in my 5.0L, dropped the hammer, felt the instant pull and listened to that awesome V8 howl I forgot about all that
.
So here is a guy who's just loving his truck and has no remorse what so ever about choosing the 5.0L. Great truck, great power and great potential for after market upgrades when I get the money
. Hopefully she'll be around for many years to come!
PS. This picture was taken just before I put the snow tires on and right after I washed and waxed it. Its pretty dirty at the moment.

I will find out, I am getting my first oil change today. Only 2000 miles but I am going on a long trip and won't be able to get the oil changed at my local dealer for 2 months and probably another 5000 miles. So will do it early.

Looks exactly like the truck I test drove, Man I miss the days when my truck was this new
Black looks so nice especially with the chrome but it's so hard to keep clean. I went with the race red and it's hard to believe my truck looked just like yours but red this time last year!
