Default How-to: Wiring a switch for full on/off control of Traction Control

Now before anyone starts saying anything about driving habits or anything, this is just a guide for people that want to do this mod. If you don't want to do it, then there's no need to say anything. A how-to was recommended by sullyman and I finally got the chance. This was installed on my 09 XLT.

My family and I work in ag and that involves driving in some nasty conditions, some in which traction control is more a hindrance than a helping hand. Instead of turning it off each time I restarted my pickup (many, many times a day), I decided to wire a switch in. I'm not responsible for anything you do while using this mod

This mod is completely reversible to stock. I removed the fuse and used 2 fully insulated female spade connectors to connect to the prongs. The rear prong (prong towards the rear of the vehicle) is the power in and front prong is power out. Wiring instructions are in post #11: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/how-wi...2/#post3134854.

Your parking brake, ABS and TC lights will be on when you have power cut and when power is restored, it will beep, flash a message to check your brake system and the lights will turn off.

Here's a picture looking from the front of the engine bay. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to post this up. After my little experiment this morning with turning off advance trac i think i can manage.

Like you there are days/weeks where my truck will see more gravel, dirt and grass roads, and fields than pavement and this is a great benefit to be able to turn off all the idiot proofing....

Does this turn it off completely regardless of speed? When you turn it off via the button it still kicks in at like 20mph.

Yes. It cuts off all power to the TC module, thereby killing traction control. The biggest downside is that you also lose ABS but as long as you realize that, you can manage for it.

I mainly want it fully off for if I am at the track or something like that so the ABS thing wouldnt be an issue. Just seems a tuner should be able to turn it off in the tune.

I wouldn't have a clue as to if the tuner would or not, this was just the easiest way for me to do it for less than $10.

The full wiring diagram or just for wiring the relay? I'll try to get it done as soon as I can, may end up being tomorrow though.

Xtralarge your the man! I have been waiting on someone to rig something up for our TC issues with our trucks, especially those that want to go to the track and offroad. Luckily I have these supplies just laying around and I even have an extra relay, so Ill be patiently awaiting your wiring diagram and once again thanks for the write up!
