How to remove 12V accessories outlet in dash?
Hi all!
Can anybody help me with figuring out how to remove the 12V accessories outlet in the dash without damaging anything? I am talking about the one to the right, just below that one vent, not the cigarette lighter. My plan is to tap 12V power from behind it. It appears I can't just pull on it.
Any help is much appreciated! Hope it's not too involved!

Depends on the style of your dash. But, this is how I did it.
If you have a dash like mine
You can grab here
Pull towards you
Then work it out. Now you can get behind the 12v
There are tabs behind it that clip it in. Just push down on those, and it should pop out. I hope this helped

The project: Garmin GPS mount.
I want to install an additional 12V outlet vertically in that tray on top of the dash (which covers the sync unit). That's why I need the 12V power.
I bought the mount below, which then will be installed vertically into that new outlet. I will shorten the power cables of the GPS and attach them neatly to the rear, such that from the front you won't really see anything but the GPS. Should look nice. The GPS will then remain attached to the mount at all times, and to use it, all I have to do is put it into that 12V outlet. I can even use it in my wife's car without modifications. Got one of those ultra thin wide screen 5" Garmins with 3D view, lifetime traffic & map updates. The screen is awesome!
What do you guys think?
Hey, mbullock, how can I send you props or "like it" or something like that?

The 12v in the cig lighter and the 12v power outlet should be the same. I think you could use either one. One thing is that the 12v source your getting to will be on all the time, that might be what you want, don't know.

I was wanting to just remove the cover to the 12V because it is always open and the cover is huge. Has anyone removed just the cover.
I currently have USB charger in that space and swap that with a 120v inverter. The cap is just in the way but I want the option to put it back on. I don't want to remove the inner cover ring.
Thanks in advance.

Edited to note that as shown, Nuvi is powered by Powerlet/USB cable rather than Garmin power cable with its cig plug/integrated traffic antenna (stored in the console if traffic functionality is needed).
