2010 F150 5.4 Grenaded
2010 4x4 SCrew 5.4L at work grenaded yesterday.
9600 miles, no issues up to this point.
The driver was setting idleing chatting with a few fellow workers.
The truck started missing reallly bad, check engine light flashing, oil spout light flashing. He shut it off, pulled the dipstick, oil level fine but had "spots" in the oil.
Managed to get it started and to our shop where they pulled the dipstick again - oil was fine.
Had it rollbacked to our local Ford dealer today. Called them this evening and the tech said that one of the heads had to be pulled for further diagnosis. He couldn't tell if it dropped a valve, broke a spring or what.
I'll post tomorrow evening about what the found.
The Ford service writer is very cool. He said we could call back as many times as we wanted to check in on it. They got it in quick too. Nice service thus far!

Apparently no one is interested in this but Ford called back today.
The tech drained the oil and cut the filter open - several metal shavings that wouldn't pick up with a magnet. They are figuring it dropped a valve and the shavings are part of the aluminum piston.
Not good but like I mentioned above, should be an isolated case, not a big issue.

Well...."grenaded" implied that there was some awesome event, with pistons and shiet flying out the block and pan!

It is a shame, but I agree that it must be an isolated incident... it is a great motor. Sucks to have your truck go like that. I'm sure they will find out what happened and make it right. Fingers crossed for you!

Yea... that's what I was hoping oops thinking I was going to read, some times a part will fail or some bonehead will do something like leaving out the flux capacitor.
