Question, Did you also have to have your original key fobs and press them when you did this? I know some cars erase everything when you enter learning mode so you have to program all of them. Do you have to do the steps for each fob or press the buttons on each while its still in learning mode?

When I programmed my aftermarket keypad I also had to re-program all the key fobs (I actually have 4...2 with auto start and the 2 that came with the truck before the autostart was dealer installed). The instructions in the manual direct you to have all the key fobs in hand while programming a new fob.

The manual's instructions worked like a charm...and it's nice to have the keypad mounted on the pillar to access the truck when my keys are somewhere else. I don't have to worry about locking myself out of the truck anymore either.

I'm probably doing something wrong g but I've tried this numerous times to no avail. Any recommendations?

The door locks should cycle up and down to indicate you are in learn mode.

Press any button on the new remote to program to vehicle (locks should cycle to confirm program). If you have other remotes program them at this time too.

This works on quite a few Ford vehicles, give it a try.
This process seems to work right up to the point where I push the button(s) on the new remote. At that time, instead of the locks cycling to acknowledge the new remote the horn honks once for each button I push. When I turn the key off the locks cycle again. I'm using the old key to do the ignition Off/On sequence. I'm assuming that the key I'm programming does NOT need to be in the ignition at the time of programming?? I ask that because I haven't cut the blank key yet as I wanted to be sure I could program it..
Thanks for any insight!

What he said above works from @ least 2014 waay back to middle 90's or so....
If locks don't cycle up & down after * on & off with the 8th on.... staying on....You did something wrong....Just do it steady; not too fast!!!!

Yep, I have a 2013 XLT. However, using some of the other valuable insight in some of the comments I consulted the owners manual. Basically going through the 8 off/on cycles is the same. However, after the locks cycle I have to turn it off. Between 3-10 seconds later I need to insert another already programmed key and cycle off'/on once. Then back to off for 3-10 seconds and remove. Finally inserting the NEW key and turning it off/on and finally back to off it's programmed. I "might" have left a step out as I'm paraphrasing here but the bottom line is the new blank must be cut before programming can begin. I'll get it cut this afternoon. If anything else shows up different that what I've written here I'll post it. :-)

I think we're talking about two different things: programming the ignition key versus programming the remote buttons. I'm looking on this forum because I replaced the batteries in my two remotes for my 2013 Lariat and the buttons suddenly stopped working. The keys still worked in the ignition and started the truck (I do not have the keyless ignition.) I went through the "on/off 8 times ignition cycle" thing as described, and struggled with it for 45 minutes before I got one fob to reprogram successfully. It did NOT seem like it was going to work at first, after several tries. I was eventually successful, and here's what I did. hopefully it will help someone. The first fob seemed to finally program itself after several tries (indicated by a short horn beep) but I have no idea why... I did everything the same every time. The same method did not work for the second fob! So after several attempts, I tried using the first successfuly programmed fob to get the truck into program mode, and with the second fob in my hand I pushed its button and voila! the horn beeped! My second fob then worked... but after only one button push it lost its programming again. Argggh!! So THEN I decided to try using that dead fob in the ignition to get the truck into programming mode again and see what happens. This time, that second fob programmed properly, indicated by the horn beep! At this point, I throw up my hands and say WTF. At least they're both programmed now. As I always say, electronics can drive you nuts.

Eric reading your post I didn't get that once you got into programming mode you can do ALL fobs in one shot by pressing lock unlock button on all your keys One after another !! That has always worked for me !! After you get into programming press only one button (lock or unlock) start with the key in the ignition then do every other key a few seconds apart !!
Each key has it's own code & that's why you must do them all in one programming shot... As you press a button your locks should cycle to confirm programming...
I believe you can program up to 8 fobs ?? Just to confirm leave the key on after the 8th turn on's (8th turn on then honk) then do all fobs.....

I would have tried programming them all at once if I had known that method. Don't know why Ford makes it so hard to find this out. I will say one thing... Although I love my F-150, the remotes are crappy compared to my two previous Chevy Avalanches. Those remotes worked flawlessly, and instantly! I'm sure everyone on here notices a lag time from when you press a button to the doors unlocking on an F-150. That lag was non-existent on my Avalanches. I do miss that!

Is there a way to program my key so I can start the truck without going to the dealer? I already programmed the buttons.....
