Default How much is BS vs Reality? REF: Add mirror turn signals

I talked to my local dealership parts guy and asked if I could add the turn signal indicators. He told me they had tried to do it and found that the signals are not controlled by the ECU. They are controlled by a totally separate module. Unfortunately, I was told I can't add them because my truck came without them and it would 'lock up' the ECU if I tried to plug them in to the existing wiring.

Since my F-150 STX package came with electric door locks, electric mirrors, electric windows, etc. Is the parts guy correct? Does anyone know if this can be done?

I tapped into my wires on the rear side of the mirrors to add LED signals to the front side of the mirrors. They work flawlessy and I have not locked up anything.

I did it all the wiring through the puddle lamp hole. Not much wire to work with but I got the job done.

I've had no problems with mine also. 2011 XLT

Yeah, it didn't make much sense that I couldn't just wire them right in. It's good to hear this is working for y'all. I think I'll buy the factory indicators and install them myself since I know they'll work. Thye look relly good on our trucks.

Confused:? Are you talking about the forward facing signal mod, under the reflector or the signals under the mirror that you see while driving the truck? Many guys have done the LED mod under the forward facing reflector but we all have the rear facing blinkers. The wires are already there. Unsure what factory blinker your talking about, unless it the rear facing one.

I was talking about the complete set or a portion thereof. My truck only came with just the black mirrors ... no reflectors or signals on the front or the back of the mirror at all.

If i understand the op correctly he is talking about adding the rear facing blinkers that come on all but the xl and stx models. I had an 09 stx and was able to add the rear facing blinkers with minimal effort, not sure why a dealer would say you couldnt, even though my own dealer told me the same thing at the time. Hope this helps

Sounds like dealer BS to me, but even if they are right you can just find the wire that controls the front or rear signal an tap into that, then it will work just fine.
