Default Help for Deciding new F-150

New to these forms, but I've been lurking and reading.

So I visited the dealer after doing much research but still not enough.

I want a 3.5 Scab 4x4 XLT, went to the dealer let him know, turns out they don't have any on the lot. And they don't know when others are coming in, 1 is currently in build mode. I think this has something to do with the shuddering problem. They found 1 from a sister dealer and listed at 40K MSRP and were planning on giving it to me at 32K, not before the 2500 off, and who knows what else after negotiating. Though the gentleman made it sound as though they don't negotiate on trucks anymore.

They offered me other trucks on their lot, all 2011 models. XLT, 3.7, Scab, 4x2, of course I really wanted the 3.5. He talks me up about the 3.5 till her learns they can't get any, so now he starts downplaying everything, fine thats his pitch. But he then offers it at 26K before rebates and stuff(or at least that what he made it sound like), now the 2011 models still has the 5K back and 0% financing. I figured the 5k/0% thing out after I got home and checked some things online, he never mentioned it.

I'm torn now, really want the 3.5 but a lot of people are having that shuttering problem. v6 is a must, need to save the amount spent on fuel.
But 0% APR is great, and they do not offer that on the 2012 models, at least not yet, promotion ends 4/2. He said the 4x4 doesn't matter cause of the limited slip differential, I don't do to much off road, other than going into some muddy areas, or snow, whenever it does. And he also mentioned unless I"m hauling I don't need a 3.5, thought I am mostly doing paid load stuff, i.e. AC units, tools, ladder rack, side storage boxes.

I also still have the Xplan, but the salesmen told us he was giving it to us at invoice price, so I didn't mention it. I still plan on going to another dealer.

So any advice?

one more thing, ahha sorry for all the questions but you guys are well informed. I really want the spray on liner, X-line offers lifetime warranty its $450 but I like the sound of lifetime warranty. He tried to convince me the plastic liner they provide is way better, i know I save some money if I get rid of it and the floor mats, I want weathertech mats instead.

If u don't really need the 4x4 or the extra power, I'd say the 3.7 is fine. U have to remember that the 3.7 puts out a little over 300hp, so it's got more than enough ***** to haul what u mentioned. 0% apr is also a nice thing lol. Get the line-x bed liner! He's trying to sell u his product, of course he's gonna say it's better. No plastic drop in liner is better than a spray in.

From what I understand, most people who have had the shudder problems, had an early 2011 model. If ur looking at getting a 2012, there shouldn't be a problem. As for the 3.7 having it, I'm not sure. Majority of people who have posted about it have either the EB or 5.0

i think the shudder issue is found on both 5.0 and 3.5..if it was indeed the tranny then 3.7 can be affected as well..but less people have 3.7..mostly got 3.5 and 5.0

not everyone has the shudder issue though..

and, i think even some 2012 owners claimed to have shuddering..

A limited slip axle is no replacement for a 4x4. If you live in a region where it snows, I would definitely want 4x4. Also, don't rule out the 5.0 just yet. In real world applications, it seems to get almost identical mileage to the 3.5. I'm not trying to start a war here, as I have not decided which engine I will eventually get.

The 3.7, 3.5 TT and 5.0 all get pretty darn close to the same mileage according to all the posts here. Doesn't make it any easier to decide, does it! ;-)

Yeah, was gonna say to not write off the 5.0 either because it gets about the same gas mileage as the ecoboost in the real world. You really can't go wrong with any of the engine choices. And agreed...if you deal with snow at all you're gonna want 4x4 for sure.

I drove my brothers 2wd SCREW 3.7l XLT and it had plenty of get up and go. It did have less options than my FX2 but at $5k less than mine it was a great deal and it sounds like you would be saving at least $6k from the Eco. That 3.5l is an awesome motor but for that price difference and what you need it for I would be looking hard at the 3.7l. I would verify the rebates on that price though.

2012 XLT SCAB's are $24,900 here after all rebates. If you can get an '11 for $26k before the rebates I'd say jump on it.

24,900 with all the packages, like chrome and convince package.

the '11 for 26K comes with the options added on. I guess cars around my area are slightly more expensive as well, burbs of north Philadelphia.

Man if I'm getting the same gas mileage with the 5.0, I would at this point even consider a Tundra, their depreciation value is practically nothing, I don't plan on selling or changing truck, current van is 12 years old runs great. I don't want to limit my choices, the big selling point for the Ford for me was the savings in gas and supercharger.

Well now 4x4 is going to be a must.
