Default How do Cooper AT/3's do in snow and winter?

I have read a lot of reviews here but just some mentions of how they perform in snow. I had a set of BFG AT's on my Jeep and they did great in snow, but seemed to clog up easily with mud. I am now looking to put a set of the Coopers on my F150. Living in Iowa we dont get a crap ton of snow, but we get enough that I know I probably wont like my stock Hankook AT's

Thanks

I ran AT3s on my last F-150 for 50,000 miles in every condition from North Dakota winter to Mississippi summers... In the snow and ice, they are wonderful.. at least they were for me. Never had even the remotest of a problem.

Dec. '13. The new Discoverer M+S tires

A little closer view of the tires

I have two sets of Cooper AT3's. The first set of AT3's I got on the stock rims. I liked them so much that when I bought my chrome rims I just went ahead and bought a fresh set of AT3's for them. I love the AT3's, except in Snow. I always had a problem getting started and stopped. Always slid. I put about 200 lbs. in the bed and that helped, but still was uncomfortable. For as long as I can remember, I usually have had studded winter tires during the winter. But for the first two years of owning the truck I didn't because it was a 4x4. I decided to get a set of the Cooper Discoverer M+S winter tires, but un-studded for the truck. Those things are truly Awesome. Being a winter tire, the M+S tires are built for lower temps., meaning a softer, stickier rubber compound, Siping, etc.. So, For Me.......AT3's I didn't like in the winter. All other conditions are excellent. Don't know what type of budget you have, But if you could afford to do it, I would opt for a separate set of winter tires on rims. Then you can just swap rims/tires when you needed them.

In the winter of 2013/2014 it seems that Iowa did get a crap ton of snow. It seems that I was shoveling everyday that winter. Luckily I had just gotten a set of Cooper Discoverer AT3 on my truck in the fall of 2013. They performed very very well in the snow and ice in Iowa that winter. They exceeded my expectations by far for snow performance.

They are also a great tire on the highway (quiet) and in the rain. I have only been in really deep bad mud with my truck one time while coyote hunting and they got me out of the field. Marginal deep mud and gravel roads are not a problem at all.

They are a great all around tire and I would definitely recommend them. Mine now have 20,000 miles on them and they are wearing very well. The way they are wearing so far, it seems that I may be able to get more than the 55,000 mile rating out of my set. If you do purchase them I do not think that you will be disappointed.

I had them on a Durango I had a few years ago and they were excellent in the snow. I could go places in 2wd that I needed 4 before the tires. In the next couple months I'll be getting them for my 12 f150. Just trying to run down the stock Good years a little more during the summer months.

I see they now make a AT W model. (winter rated)

It looks like both of em are siped, but the W version has more of it and it is 50K mile rated vs 55.
