Mine is a nickname from High School. Best friend used to call me Sgt Patty O'Leary or Sgt Patty O'Toole because of my police regulation haircuts. In 1986 the song Patio Lanterns came out, and I became Sgt Patty O'Lantern. That fall he passed away in a car driven by a drunk driver. Kept the nickname alive as my username for pretty much everything. Bought my 2013 Lariat on what would have been his 45th birthday, June 18/2013. Had logos made in honor. They were designed by another forum member.

I've been on the Internet since it basically began.
Back in those day we were pretty paranoid and you wanted to remain fairly anonymous.
I chose "Heretic" from one of my favourite Sci Fi novels by Frank Herbert.
The Dune series.
One of the books was called "Heretics of Dune".
Everyone else I knew was using strange names. like my best friend went by "PinkHat" all because some girl gave him her pink baseball cap to wear one day.
In the early 90's, I got into online gaming, First Person Shooters - in particular Quake.
I even ran my own clan for a long time - formed it during QTest before Quake was officially released. We were called The Quakean Peoples Front. (A play on Monty Python's Life of Brian which had a group called The Judean Peoples Front).
I've used Heretic as my call sign, heck, even my FaceBook I set my "middle" name as Heretic.
When I became a Christian back in 2007, other online people couldn't figure out why I was a Christian with the name Heretic. It makes for an easy conversation starter.
