Default USB MP3 music files?

Hello all,

I purchased a FX4 this last weekend and it has the Sync setup. I had an 8GB flash drive that was full of mp3 music files that would play in my last car, but I can't figure out if this will work in the Sync system.

I plugged it in and pushed the 'media' button to toggle through the different options try to get it to play the music, but it wouldn't work. Is this something that the Sync system can do? Am I missing something?

Thanks for helping.

Word is that any storage device over 5 gigs needs to have the file format changed to FAT files.

Still no success. I reformatted the drive in FAT32 and then placed the mp3s back on the drive but I have had no luck in playing anything using Sync.

Am I doing this correctly? I plug the USB stick into the USB port on the Sync system in the truck, then I push the media button until it says 'Sync Line In' on the display... then the radio display and I stare at each other for a few seconds during the uncomfortable silence.

My mp3's are all inside folders within the USB drive, could that be the problem? Do they all need to be in the root folder?

Default voice command

You have to use the voice command button and then when prompted say "USB" to activate the port. Should work then.

Some flash drives have U3 built into them and they are not compatible with SYNC. The U3 system allows protection of files on computers and the ability to launch windows programs from a usb but sync doesn't care for it and will not recognize it. If you have a U3 drive you have to either uninstall the u3 or format the drive and make sure it comes off.

i, too, had the same difficulty in finding the usb. it is in the menu selection that you are using. i just fooled around with it until i found it. you can use your sync handbook to assist. i listen to the flash drive more than anything else. good luck.

I have the U3 I said "play" to sync, and it said it was protected. Then I said "play all" and it did... Worth a try

You don't want 'Sync, line-in' but instead, 'USB' said in a loud, authoritive voice..........After it sez, 'Please say a command'.

Line-in is for the 3.5 cable connector for something like a MP3 player that doesn't have bluetooth.

Thanks, the 'USB' voice command worked.

I also had it tell me that it couldn't play because of protection, but when I chose the 'play all' option it worked anyway. Not sure what's going on there, as far as I know the mp3 format doesn't support protection anyway, but at least it's working now.
