How is $10K below sticker possible on new truck?
It seems like a common belief around here is that a person should be able to get "10K below sticker" when buying a new truck. I have seen that sentiment posted many times. Being in the market myself currently, I have checked the invoice price for the FX4 that I want, and on average, local dealerships are setting the sticker price anywhere from $1000 to $3000 over invoice. In addition to that, local factory rebates (Dallas, TX) are averaging between $1000 to $2000.
Assuming I can negotiate down to a little over invoice and I get a fairly decent rebate, I am still nowhere near $10000 below sticker. Are people assuming much bigger rebates when they say this? Would dealerships sell below invoice? Or is their another buying tool that I am missing?

You just have to wait for the right time. Sometimes Ford offers huge discounts and rebates. Then dealers add discounts on top of them. Then Ford financing offers more money saved if you finance with them. Then you can be at or close to 10k off Msrp. You will never see 10k off invoice. Anyone says that is flat out lyin.

$10k below factory sticker, not dealer invoice. 2013 rebates in some areas were $7k. And XLTs have more rebates than FX4s.

I have always been able to get more knock off the XLT package usually rebates are better on the XLT. My 2013 I got $12000 off and I wanted to get a FX4 but could not get anywhere close to this much off. It was like $8000+ off and so I could not justify the extra for the FX4 because it amounted to thousands more.

I was going to pull the trigger back in September when there was the Employee Pricing going on (roughly 10k below sticker on everything). But held off for a little while.
Decided to pull the trigger at the end of January when I noticed there were still a bunch of 2013s sitting untouched and the 2014s were starting to roll in.
Spec sheet has MSRP as $57,727.
Sale Price ended up at $43,800.
Trade in was $13,800.
Costco rebate of $1000.
The total cost was the main reason I pulled the trigger. I went to test drive one and see if they could price it where I wanted...well they went below where I wanted so I signed.

Dealers don't pay anywhere near the MSRP, hence the reason they can have "under invoice" sales...they mean the window sticker invoice, not THEIR invoice.
