Default help with wiring extra back up lights

Hey guys

just ordered this set of extra backup lights for the rear figure i'll mount them to the bumper

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GRISB78?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00"><span style=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GRISB78?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00" /> http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GRISB78?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00">http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GRISB78?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

my plan is to tap into the reverse lights for power and ground rather than the 7 pin connector but i'd also like to add a switch so i can turn them on anytime

figure i can run an extra 12v from the battery and place the switch in the cab

do i need a relay and something else?? will it cause an issues by adding 12v inline while the new lights are connected to the backup lights (hope this makes sense)

Thanks

I believe thats similar to the way im planning on doing mine when i get some time off but i am using a 3 position switch so i can setup the lights to function automatically with the reverse lights and be able to manually override them on and yes i will be using 2 relays

When I did mine, I did not tap into the reverse power. I figured I won't need these during the day so I simply used a switch in the cab. My biggest thing was to be able to keep them on even when I wasn't in reverse ( ie hooking up a trailer, loading the boat on the trailer at night etc). I bought a simple wiring harness of ebay and modified it (just for length so far) I will be putting a different switch on once I get some extra free time.

If you want to have them come on with the back up lights you will need to do differently than I did but for simplicity sake this is an easy way to get auxiliary reverse lights.

I just did this exact installation and all I can say is YES YES YES install a relay. Its the safest way to operate the lights and gives you the flexibility of using the lights even when your not in reverse. I did a DIY on how to run the wires and where to mount the relay. Take a look here and let me know if you have any questions. I'm not an expert but I did put some research into how I wanted to run the wiring.

https://www.f150forum.com/f55/diy-light-bar-wire-harness-308462/

I ran two relays, one for my light bar up front and a second for my rears. Both pull from a 20A fused power connected to the battery and are tapped into my smart junction box with an add-a-fuse for power only when the key is on. I made a custom switch panel for my dash.
