I have a 2010 F-150 5.4 4X4 Super Cab Lariat with 275/55R20 Pirelli tires. Tires are rated to handle 2400 lbs each with max of 44 lbs air. I just bought a 28 ft 5th wheel trailer dry weight of 6870 lbs with hitch weight of 1134 lbs. Do I need to change my tires to E rated 10 ply tires to pull this trailer safely? Will XL (extra load) rated tires work. The few E rated 20" tires I have found are over $400 each. Do I have other options? My trips with the trailer will be long haul 2,000 mile plus trips with just the wife and I travelling.

You don't need E tires but they will give you that extra piece of mind

I would look at getting some E rated tires, that is a bit of weight, and remember how much extra stuff you will have in the trailer and truck if you are going for a long trip. Ends up being a lot of weight.

I tow with my 6 ply stock tires no problem. You just don't overload the back axle of the truck above the load ratings. A weight distributing hitch takes some load off.
If the **** of your truck isn't sagging then your probably fine unless your tires are garbage.
I never liked big rims and low profile rubber on a truck because of tire load ratings and bad roads.
Oops reread : a 5th wheel, 10 plys and a F250.

Remember the weight distribution there, you have a total weight of approximately 8000 pounds spread out over around 25 feet and the tires combined will handle almost 5000 pounds so the factory tires will suffice but extra load tires wouldn't be a bad idea, however depending on how often you haul the trailer it may not be worth the extra of tires. If you want the piece of mind, like mentioned previously, look into extra load it 6 ply tires

I recommend at least a LT class C=6 ply's. Look at your Pirelli side walls inside and out for cracking, a lot of people have this problem and if they are, Pirelli will refund you the % of tread not used. Mine has about 25 % used so they will refound me 75% of the tire value. I got a price average of 325$ after visiting 3 different Pirelli dealers. So I'm getting back, roughly 245$ per tire. Nice thing about it is you can purchase any brand you like and size you like. Just pay the difference.
