Hi all! New to this forum... I've driven F150's all my life, and I got my latest, a 2010 XLT SCrew, in November.

I had the same problem that most folks are describing where the truck would shut off after starting with the remote start, and opening one of the doors. And yes, I have the ford Bi-Directional factory remote start installed. Dealer has been pleading ignorance and didn't think there was a programming change to fix it.

Today I tried the programming change below that BadCat describes... SuffolkF150 had a link saying the same thing in this thread as well, in a more concise manner.

BadCat walks you through the whole programming setup, which I personally liked better, because I'm a propellor-head. I followed the highlighted steps in BadCats description (which is essentially what is in the SuffolkF150 link):

I'm happy to report that the programming change WORKED FOR ME!

My only issue was that I was unsure how to exit the programming mode. After my initial try, the truck would not start with the remote at all, and I got that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. So I started it the good old fashioned way, let it run for a minute, then shut off & locked the doors.

Immediately afterward, I tried the remote start worked. And- I could open the door and insert the key- all with the truck running, just like every other truck I've owned with an aftermarket remote start installed.

Thanks to you all! I would recommend following the above steps to rid yourselves of this remote start Ford-ism on your pickups...

72canuck I'm happy that it worked for you. Do you have the bi-directional remote or the regular remote start? Which is the dome light, the one behind your head when in the driver's seat or the map lights? I'm nervous to try it again!!!!

Thats funny that Ford told all dealers not to change any security features on remote starts and MyKey. The day after i picked up my truck i took it back to the dealer and told them to make my remote start work how its supposed to, and they did it no problem (other than the service guy telling me it would cost an hours labor, so i reminded him that i just bought a $35000 dollar truck from his employer yesterday and that its going to be free!)

Suffolk150, I have the bi-directional remote... Also, don't worry about the dome light, it can be on or off, as well as the map light, and the programming sequence still works. I double checked tonight.

Just be sure to turn off the key after you have completed the programming sequence. I had to manually start the truck and let it run for a minute, then manually turn off before the remote start would work after the re-program.

Best of luck!

I have the Ford files for both the regular remote start and the remote start with alarm, just email me through my profile and I can send them to you. They clearly show the option bank setting for the systems and you'll see the option you need to change for how it shutdowns when the door is opened.
