Default Undercarriage

I read a rather large thread about some guy who's truck broke down during a car wash. There was a lot of talk about undercarriage washes. What are your opinions on if it is pointless to do or not?

I get it done just to wash away the salt during the winter and road debris the rest of the year. I figure less salt and gunk over the life of the vehicle = less corrosion. I've never had a problem with it, and I get mine washed once a week.

Anyone have any reasons why it would be a bad idea? Maybe something that it could mess up with such high powered spraying?

No i think that was a extremely rare case. The pressure would have to be very very intense to cause any damage. Even spraying in the engine bay is fine as long as you cover the proper components that are covered in the owners manual. I was my truck once a week and have never had a problem.

That's good to hear. I guess I'll have to hit one of those washes once the salt gets off the roads. Thanks guys.

No issues here. High pressure undercarriage washes pretty much weekly. Likely was an isolated issue.

I really dont understand how it happened. The water would hit the tire and wheel before the engine. I've never had a problem either, nor have I heard of it happening before.

I gOt one today.

Go over to the off road section, some of these guys dunk their trucks in ponds and come out alright.

It was MY truck that broke down in the car wash. If you read my thread, you will know that it was purely coincidence. My truck suffered internal engine failure after 20k miles from new.
Before then, I routinely got an undercarriage spray with no problems. When I clean the top of the engine bay, I avoid high pressure sprays. I usually use the engine degreaser and the spot free rinse modes.
