Well- here's the update. I had the Lariat in the shop on Tuesday to have the seat mechanism replaced. They said that it was all fixed-temperature showing nice and hot. I am driving back home and the the seat heater turns off again. I just spent three hours hours at the dealership and it is still not fixed. I received a call from the dealership yesterday and they asked me to drop my truck off on Tuesday (10/6). They contacted Ford and they are to run some tests. I mentioned the problematic heating element but the tech stated that my truck does not use the heating element pad since it is both heated/cooled. This arrangement uses a forced heated air system or something like that. Almost like a hair dryer according to him. Another update coming. I hope that this will be the last one. I am thinking that the problem is with the switch. We'll see!

Sorry, but you are wrong. Heated/cooled seats are the exact same as a blow dryer in the heating mode. there is NO element pad style heater. The hair dryer blows warmed air thru the little holes in the seat and up your skirt. The cooling side is nothing more than a practical application of burnoulli's principal- blow air through an orfice and you lower the pressure and the temp. this is the reason why you can't practically put seat covers on the heated/cooled seats. The seats will wear out faster from no covers, but who keeps a truck that long anyways?

Interesting, I am having the same issue with my 2012 FX4. Cooled seat seem to work fine but when I switch to heat, most of the time all I hear is a click and then a fan for a few seconds and then nothing else. The lights on the dash never turn off but the heat never shows up. Miraculously, when I try to show someone ( not a dealer or service tech ) the seat works fine .
Please tell us what you find out at the dealer.

Each driver and front passenger seat cushion and backrest is equipped with a Thermo-Electric Device (TED) and blower motor assembly. Applying voltage to the TED in one direction causes it to heat. Applying voltage polarity in the opposite direction causes the TED to cool. Cabin air is drawn through the blower and distributed to each of the TED modules located in the seat cushion and backrest. The TEDs then heat or cool the incoming air depending on the control switch settings. The air is then directed into the foam pad and manifold where it is distributed along the surface of the cushion and backrest of the seat.
