I understand the heater is built into the fan
I know this is off a different forum but I think this answers our questions... The seat works through something called a TED. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/11...led-seats.html

I heard the fan on my heated/cooled seats the other morning and they were on heat. Kind of a varying speed sound, had just backed out into the street and put it in park to try to track it down. Hit the seat off button and it immediately stopped. Hit it again and the sound came back. It was about 32f.

Ok A little more information on how these things work....I hope. Mine has remote start and memory seats and I am guessing the box mounted under the front of the seat is the memory and function box for most of the things associated with the seat. My problem has been sometimes run the heated seat for 15 min and it quits. 3 bar lights on dash stay on but fan doesn't run and seat doesn't heat. I immediately try to switch it over to cool but fan doesn't come on and seat does nothing....indicator lights are still lit. Turn both off and on or toggle back and forth and no change. Stop and turn off truck...restart and it will work again...most of the time.

The fan cycles on heat but not on cool.(constant run-higher speed on cool) I can turn on passenger seat heat and hear the definite sound of the fan...maybe on 5 seconds and off 10....sometimes on 5 sec and off 15.....Driver seat last night was on 5 and off 3 seconds. I wonder if it is overheating and kicking out an overlimit? I tried last night looking for a schematic online, but didn't look too long and no luck. I do have picture of the foam seat cushion with the air channels and "flues" for the air to circulate under the cushion, but can't figure out how to attach. These things are all air with TED (little blower with filter visible from underneat the seat)as described on the other forum. It is so hard to describe to the dealer what to look for and they have bent over backwards for me on this, but I'm running out of things to replace....lol The passenger seat has a black box at the front of it, but only half the size of the one under the driver seat...with all the memory stuff...that's all that can be left unless there is a t stat mounted in the cushion somewhere. Still love the truck!
