Default Stock radio wiring

Hello,

I am going through a horrible situation. I hired someone I shouldn't have to install an aftermarket amp for me. This has resulted in a lot of sub-problems. Anyway, I need to ask for help with one of these sub-problems.

Forgive my terminology if it is incorrect. Possibly why my googling has been unsuccessful is because I don't know what to ask for here.

The "installer" did quite the hackjob on the molex connector that goes to the back of the factory radio. He cut the wires so short that it is now nearly impossible to get new wires on, and just as difficult to see the color scheme of the original factory wires.

I am looking for what I am told is called the "pigtail", just to replace the factory molex connecter that the original guy did just a horrible job with. But, I can't seem to find anything. I see wiring harnesses that appear to plug into that, but not the pigtail itself.

I contacted Tasca Parts, and was told the best they can to is to sell me the entire harness, which is going to cost over 200 bucks. I don't want to pay that.

Can someone help me find what I'm looking for? Thanks.

Hey, man sounds like a tough spot. I don't really know what you are trying to do. but what I get from it is you're going to try to just completely replace the stock molex connector that plugs into the radio. My stab at it would be to buy the aoem-frd24 from pac or just email them asking to buy just the vehicle specific harness(probably $10-15). and cut off the connector you want to replace, leaving enough wiring after the connector to strip and solder the wires. But you will want to make sure the wires are the same on the connectors, such as the # of wires. This sound like a tough job but really isn't, just take your time and make sure you do 1 wire at a time so you don't solder the wrong wires together and make sure you remember to put heat shrink on before you solder the wires together(at least 1 wire always gets me on big projects).
Just food for thought, might be worth looking into

RYMAX is spot on. A pigtail is generally just the description (it's not a part) of a short harness that has a connector on only one end. The other end are just free conductors.

What year are we talking here?? I needed a pigtail to extend my head unit controller and simply ordered it from the dealer. They do make just the pigtail connectors for almost every connector on the truck so they can do a repair if need be. I think mine cost 8 bucks. If it is a 2012 I can give you the connector and wiring diagram but I know they changed things on the 2013

Thanks for all the replies.

Mine is the 2009 F150 STX. The radio is the one-disc, aux-in, Sirius model. The model of the radio itself is 9l3t-18c869-da, if it helps.

check these out, it is possible that you have both I am not sure as it comes from a 2012 service manual. If so then you can match up the pin#'s with the color wires and go to the dealer and ask them to get you the connector either C290A or the C290C whichever one is hacked up! It will come with all the wires attached and about 6" long. Then as stated get some heat shrink and solder each wire, make sure you match them up correctly, then use the heat shrink. Hope this helps,, if it isn't then I would still go to the dealer with you vin and tell them it is the connector that goes to the radio!

This is great. Thank you so much!

Is there a way to confirm for certain that the '09 and the '12 wiring is the same? As I understand it, the '09 and '10 are pretty much the same truck, and then Ford changed things up for the '11 going forward...or do I have that incorrect?

So, I didn't get exactly what I wanted, but I may have got the next best thing.

First off, with Rymax's suggestion, I tried to contact the folks at AAMP Support. Here's the response I got...

Bret, Sorry but we wouldnt have anything like that

I tried Tasca Parts, again, and while they were helpful in their searching they told me that I'd have to buy the whole harness.

But, I didn't give up.

I took the diagram that mamonti posted of the C290A connector, and I combined it with this diagram I managed to find elsewhere in the forum...

LF
+ white
- white brown

RF
+ white violet
- white orange

LR
+ white green
- brown yellow

RR
+ brown white
- brown blue

After googling to confirm that the '09 and the '12 do indeed take the same stock radio, it was enough for me to draw a diagram of what wire does what in my case. So, while I don't have the "pigtail" I was looking for before, I do have enough to go on to perhaps correct the hackjob myself. Or, I can hire someone competent, give him my research, and he can clean up the mess.

Anyway, thank you to all for all the help. I am now optimistic that one day this situation might actually be solved and I'll again have music in my truck!

But did you call or go to the Ford Dealer parts department? All I did is go in tell them what I needed, they brought up the screen shot and ordered the connector, the next day it was there waiting for me to pick up!

Hey man you might be kinda confused with what I was trying to say. If you look up the aoem-frd24. If has the connector on it you need and wires already ran. All you would have to do is cut off probably 6-8 inches of wiring and then just solder to your stock ones.
