How long have you had the 55w? Just curious if the oem projector can handle the extra heat.

Also I put in the JW Speaker fogs and they are much wider than oem fogs.

I find the stock headlights are awesome other than width (never been in a truck with 55w). The conversion would def fix that. I just need to figure out a way to get the fogs on all the time without cutting and splicing. (The retrofit source offers a harness to keep the fogs on all the time, just haven't looked enough into it)

These are aftermarket projectors: Hella EvoX-R. Yes they can handle the heat.

Ya as soon as I posted that I remembered they were aftermarket. I looked into those when I first bought my F150.

But still wonder if 55w notched D2S (if I remember right they will fit in place of the D3S) would work in the projector

Seems like turning on the fog lights would take care of that little bit of side light. .
Huge difference, I have the Evox R in mine and my buddy has stock, I'm with 50w with 50w 5000k and the difference is night and day side by side. It's not even worth using my fogs as the HIDs drown them out and I have flood Ridid duellys.

Also, as for the "farther down the road"...that's impossible if the headlights are properly aimed. The cutoff won't allow for additional projection in length if you have them aimed properly. The intensity of the upgrade is drastically increased and the camera just cannot pick it up.

Nope, the fogs don't throw that light down and out. I'm on my second set of halogens (45w over the 40w stocks) and even tried Putco LEDs before the retrofit. None of those options filled that void in the ditches.
I will agree with you on one thing, ... it is your money and you are more than welcome to **** it away as you see fit, but don't post pics for comparison that are obvious to a blind man that you wasted your money and get all bent when people see it and make a comment about it.

I like to spend my money as I see fit as well but don't expect to force others to see what your mind is hallucinating when you provide visual evidence to the contrary.

While I can understand why you may believe this is an unjustifiable upgrade, I do not agree that your comments are justifiable and appropriate for the content of the OPs discussion. How each of us spends our money is completely up to us. Yes it is a costly upgrade, however it's an upgrade that I'm glad I did as the in-person outcome extends well past what pictures can gather. So yes, you may state that comparisons via picture are inadequate, but you'd also say the same if we didn't supply any pictures, correct?

So obviously you just cannot be happy. I could add commentary here about the upgrades you've made to your personal truck but I will refrain.

I will say this, the upgrade is worth the money if you're brave enough to make the commitment and stick with it. I'm not saying it's for everyone, that's obvious as you've so diligently attempted to force down my throat, yet this is a performance upgrade...much like a tuner.
For example...a stock truck is perfectly capable...right? Just like stock halogens. It gets the job done.
OEM HIDs are like canned tunes. They are drastically better than halogens, just like the tune strategy trumps the stock tune.
A projector swap is like stepping from canned tunes to custom tunes. The difference is there but it's not the same percentage increase as stock to canned, or halogen to OEM HID.

Lastly, it is MY money that I work my extremely diligently to obtain. I work to afford my lifestyle and I'm 100% content with it in that regard. I'm sure you'll complain that my purchase of a Platinum trim is not justifiable as well, as you cannot agree with anyone spending any money over and above what you would spend yourself. I'll leave you with this...your negativity is unwarranted and not necessary especially here. Thanks for your input though as it truly added an immense about of value to this thread.

So I've now pissed away my money (your words) and my time with your efforts to tell us all that this upgrade is unnecessary. Thanks again for your participation. Would you like to also now start a discussion about my Ecoboost and how it was a worthless waste of my money? It has about as much bearing and sense on this topic as your previous comments.

Rant over...

Go look all over, there are comparison picks. HIDplanet.com has a bunch.

I could take pics but it doesn't do it justice especially to someone like you who can't even see the obvious benefits.

My Evox R's will light up a 4 lane highway from side to side from the front of the truck, it has a wider and better dispersed beam and output. As mentioned the throw will not matter as if your lights are aimed correctly, but that light at the very end of the throw is more brilliant and focused with a WAY sharper cutoff and not fuzzy and erratic as stock. It almost looks soft whereas the aftermarket is a razor sharp cutoff.

Now as for the highs, no way! It's like lighting the night with a fireball, if you want light throw, the highs on the Evox R's will let you see substantially further with much more area covered.

Look at his pictures, you can see stock has more of a cone shape and has dark spots here and there whereas the other has better light spread and dispersion.

I went from halogens that were just horrible, then to HIDs that were PnP and they were better but had to aim them low, now I have a set of retros that I saved up for and it's been one of the best mods. Finally did a long trip with them, 7 hours each way and on my way back there was a bad rain storm for three hours of it in the middle of the night, watching all the poor suckers pull right with flashers because they couldn't see, even cars with stock HIDs, was worth it as I had great visibility and cruised on down the road able to see a wider swath because of my lights.

Either way, it seems you may be a bit jealous that people have the money to "**** away" and get upset that you can't be as frivolous when upgrading.

Hmmm looks like an eraser was taken to a few things

I was reminded tonight why I love the projector upgrade...the beam width is insane. As said before by another member the EvoX-R does throw a huge amount of light very wide. The OEM HIDs do a great job of illuminating what's directly in front of the truck and that's good an dandy in urban or suburban environments.

The crisp cutoff, color flicker of the Nightbreakers, and the beam spread just does not compare...they blow away the projectors in the OEM housings. Again, it's costly so keep that in mind.
