I just had mine fixed... First they did the BCM/ABS TSB reprogram and the C1B00 code was still there so they replaced the steering gear/rack assembly and did the alignment.
Same symptoms: Service AdvanceTrac illuminated on the dash and no turn signals without holding down the lever.
My theory: The Steering Angle Sensor (part of the rack) basically breaks and hoses the computer's concept of "straight" which is also why the signals cancel by default. The truck thinks you're turning but the yaw sensor says you're not. Factor in speed and direction and the computer just barfs and displays the Service AdvanceTrac warning.
I have a 2012 STX 4X4 SC with 18k miles. I could duplicate the problem reliably by turning completely left and backing up.
I use Torque (for Android) and an OBD scanner to check for codes before I go to the dealership so I know what's there before some knucklehead erases them.
Thankfully, it was fixed under warranty and the part was in stock. Dropped it off in the morning and picked it up in the evening. All better.

2011 F150 Advance track light came on at 35,000, took to dealer, did a program update, came on again few months later, so back in for a steering wheel sensor. A few weeks later a Module of some kind?? This Time I Didn't even make it out of the dealers parking lot!! and Now every time time I back out a parking spot or make any sharp turns in reverse the warning comes on?? Now the Dealer wants me to pay $1,100 for a new steering rack assembly, Not under warranty now that I have 42,000 miles on it. Did I mention the turn signal don't work properly with the Service advance Trac warning is on?? Once the truck is stopped and restarted all is good until I need to back out of a tight spot again. Think the truck is safe to drive?? as Ford Dealer will Not confirm that its OK to drive. I think I can Deal with the problem for a while as long its mechanically safe to drive??

CAS7026 - I have been living with the problem exactly as you described for more than a year if it makes you feel any better about it being safe to drive. Based in part on this thread and prior experience I decided to not take it to the dealer for random part replacements at my expense. Maybe the Ford specialist who follows this thread can let us all know how to solve the problem based on technical advice from headquarters.

I don't have access to our engineering folks; your best bet will be to reach out to the service manager at your local dealership for any mechanical or technical questions.

So I think I'm going to deal with the problem, and Hope for a recall I guess. Does Not seem to be a safety concern to my dealer, and obviously not to Ford, as No recall. Must be a common problem as I just talked to the dealer and the steering gear assembly is not even currently in stock, and wasn't sure when they would even get the part?? I wish I could get the turn signals to function properly when the service advance trac warning is on. Tried turning the advance trac off, but does not help.
