Issue: Dash warning to ‘Service AdvanceTrac’ keeps popping up

The error message is usually displayed after doing a sharp or full lock turn.

Possible Solutions:
  • Temporary- Straighten out your steering wheel and reset your truck.
  • Sticks may have gotten stuck in your wheel and simply need to be dislodged.
  • Reprogramming via dealer
  • Wheel sensor needs to be replaced
  • New steering rack

Similar problem with my 2011. "Service Advanced Trac" light comes on, not sure what prompts it (only happening when wife drives the truck), but not the "Check Break System" light.

We're able to cancel out the light, but it keeps coming on when she drives the truck. I've personally never experienced this problem when I drive the truck.

Calling to make an appointment today. I'm out of my 3 year/36,000 mile warranty though. Hope it's covered under powertrain or has become a recall. Wish me luck!

I'll post update after service.

Hi ferret318,

I'm Crystal, the US Ford Service rep on this forum. Nice to meet you! Once you've had your dealership check this out, PM me your information, including your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll look into ways to help.

Interesting, my wife complained about this happening on our 2013 on extremely cold days (-40celsius) but I was never able to recreate it so I just ignored it. Then when we traded in on the new 2014 they couldn't release the new truck to us because the steering system was recalled on the new trucks that haven't been sold yet. I wonder if this is a recall the we can all expect in the future.

I have had the light appear numerous times. What seems to trigger it is turning the steering wheel all the way one way or the other in a parking lot. It has always gone away after a period of time. Great advice to "take it to the dealer for diagnosis" but that's often when the real trouble starts. I have a 2011 ecoboost FX4 with 66,000 miles on it.

Mine would always come on backing up with the steering wheel cranked all the way in one direction (cant remember which), I also had to hold down my signal lights to keep them on until I restarted the truck. Ended up needing a a whole new steering rack. Covered under warranty.

Forgot to mention that when the warning comes on, the turn signals wont work. I see my scenario is the same as a few of the posting members in this forum as well.

Yes I have similar problems with the turn signals when the advancetrac service light comes on. I have to hold the turn signal lever or it will only flash 3 times. Eventually everything returns to normal.
When my truck had 35,000 miles on it my left turn signal would only flash 3 times unless I held the lever down. I was on a 2000 mile trip and didn't get it to the dealer until after 36,000 so they would not fix it under warranty. After a few months it fixed itself.
Please report what happens when you take your truck to the dealer.

I am new to this forum, but not new to Fords. I have a 2012 F150 FX4 with ecoboost. I got these same messages (Check Brake System, Service Advance Trac, and lights on dash). Took it to the dealer today...they said that I "severed" the wires in the harness and several things now have to be replaced. Service tech manager asked if I took truck off road...I work all day, drive 3.5 miles one way on blacktop, not been off road, no bad weather (no cold, no storms, no snow, etc), truck only has 15,500 miles...how could I have severed this wiring harness? He said (manager) that I must have hit something. Would I not have heard something like this? He said "you should have."....Anyone ever hear of this?

Sounds like they are trying to blame you so you'll have to pay and not warranty. I had the light come on recently again and when I brought it to the dealer (oil change) I mentioned it. On my bill I was charged 110$ and NFF (no fault found)
