Issue: Dash warning to ‘Service AdvanceTrac’ keeps popping up

The error message is usually displayed after doing a sharp or full lock turn.

Possible Solutions:
  • Temporary- Straighten out your steering wheel and reset your truck.
  • Sticks may have gotten stuck in your wheel and simply need to be dislodged.
  • Reprogramming via dealer
  • Wheel sensor needs to be replaced
  • New steering rack

I'm reading the recalls on every other Ford electric power assist steering but not my truck!!!!!!! 1800$$$$ is the fix the dealer told me and they have the parts in stock and replace about 2 a week!! Seems like a ongoing issue to me.
Ford Please Help!!!

Btw I have a 2011 f150 fx4 3.5 with 74757.00 miles. Way to soon for something major to happen especially when it is happening enough for the dealer to stock a replacement rack and pinion. Come on!!!!

Anybody else had this problem and had ford do anything to make it right?
Nice to hear as my fully loaded truck with ladders and gear winds through mountain roads without guard rails and steep cliffs!!!

This in in addition to the 02 Sensor Code that keeps coming back......
I'm having the exact same problems and also electric steering shutting down. I JUST got my engine replaced not under warranty because of two rods smashing through the block. I'm having a feeling the the tech didn't connect all of the wires properly.

Unhappy Advanced trak

I had the same issue with my 2012 F150 Platinum. I had it in for service " the works" and the error came in with the tech. They did a test drive and turned it on and off then it cleared. They said to keep an eye on it and if it came in again, to bring it back. (88000 km)
A couple of hours later it came in again and the signal lights wouldn't engage. I brought it back to the Ford service dept and they said the coding showed I needed a new steering gear. They said it is a big job to fix and very expensive, luckily I bought the extended warranty and it was covered, because the factory warranty ran out.
Searching this issue on the Internet forums shows this faulty steering issue to be very common with the F150, I also noticed that a recall was done against it but only for the 2014 model.
I love my truck but now I am starting to think I need to get a different manufacturer because of the poor quality work being done where these trucks are being built, or at the very least poor quality parts being used. Having a gear fail at such low mileage should be less common than what it is in these F150s.

Mine started doing this intermittently back in June but my turn signals and steering angle display still worked fine. It then began to become more prevalent and the "Service AdvanceTrac" warning only came up occasionally although I started getting a "Low Battery Features Temporarily Turned Off" warning whenever the steering went out. No other electrical items other than the steering were affected and I had not problems with my battery however as the temperatures dropped and I had dew in the morning I noticed that whenever this message came up my heated mirrors and rear defroster did not work. Fast forward and now the steering is non-existent except for coming on for a few seconds to five minutes once or twice a day. I finally made an appointment at the dealership, told them the whole story, and had it checked this morning. They charged me $120 and took less than an hour to tell me that I need a new rack. I asked if the low battery warning had anything to do with the problem and the service writer just told me that he had to replace the rack and then he'd look into the other problems. I continued to protest that I paid for a diagnostic service but apparently only got half of one so he called the mechanic up. That guy acted like he knew nothing about the low battery warning even though a)it was on the original write up and b)he had to have seen it flash up when he drove my truck into the bay. I asked if maybe the computer was erroneously sensing low power and cutting off the steering. All he did was pull up some diagrams and tell me that the steering and heated mirrors have nothing to do with each other. I told the service writer I would have to get back to him about replacing the rack and left. Afterwards I contacted Ford Customer Service and filed a complaint. They said the service manager should contact me today or tomorrow. We'll see.

Am I crazy to think that there could be something else going on other than a bad rack?

Its not just ford with this same issue,my work van is a chevy and the same message has been coming on since it had 20,000 miles on it when the temps drop below 60 and there is rain, said we would have to remove the computer mount in the cab so they could pull the dog house out to ck wiring, they installed it but wont pull 4 bolts to move it? so at 65,000 i dont pay it any attention as it still runs

Man you guys scare me.... I have an 09 with the 5.4. Not everything was switched over to the Digital/Tech side of things yet in my year... I was thinking of trading in my Truck next year for a 2011+ with the ecoboost or 5.0... I see more problems being posted on this side of the form involving the newer 2011+ trucks then I do the 09-10 4.6's/5.4's. =\

Got the Service Advance Trac warning again this morning. Third time.

Dealer says they are going to replace the steering gear this time.

We'll see how long it lasts this time.
