What is hapening to my Ford aluminum wheels?
My truck is a 2010 Lariat. I have what I call spyderwebbing close to the outer edge on my wheels. Does anyone else have this problem with there wheels? How does this happen? Do the wheels have a clear coat? Will a heavy polish get rid of it? I had the same problem with my 99 Ford Ranger wheels.

Retired and loving it!
I'll bet they use lots of chemicals and salt on the roads there all winter? That is what is causing that. You can try to polish them with a very light grit of sandpaper, but 'twer me, I'd let a pro do it.
If they can get that off, the wheels can then be re-clearcoated. If you do this for your wheels, keep a good coat of Collinite 845 on them every winter after that. It will help a great deal on what sticks to and eats into your wheels.

That is clear coat failure and you can't just polish that out at this point. Its due the salts on the roads, you need to clean and protect your rims often in the salt belt states. You can get them re done from a wheel repair company for MUCH cheaper than replacement.

Guys thanks for the info. I've always waxed the truck paint but never thought about waxing my wheels. I guess it's just another reason to plastidip them.

oxidation under your clear coat. wheel can be repaired but would probably be better to put the money toward new rims, or strip and paint or powder coated. i would use it as an excuse to get new rims.

If you want to protect them I'd plastidip them. That was the initial purpose of plastidip, to protect paint.

I take my black 20's off for the winter and run FX4 18's with duratracs for the winter. If the 18's ever get nasty looking, I'll do a cheap refinish.
