Got my tow mirrors on today. Bought them yesterday from lilcrazyone really cheap with a few fixable flaws in them. The passenger's side one had a rather big crack/hole in the rear and a cracked convex mirror. No biggie on both accounts. The caps were also painted silver. Again, no biggie.
When I got them home last night I cleaned them up and began working on the cracked housing. Filled it with a couple layers of body filler and smoothed it out.
When I sanded the filler down I lost the texture in the plastic, so I used some EZ Liner undercoating that I had laying around (Used it on the rear wheelwells on my last truck) to get the texture back. The EZ liner added too much texture and Kinda ruined the whole look actually, and the duplicolor universal black I was using would've been fine. Oh well.
When I got the plastic sanded down again after coating it with EZ liner I threw a coat of Universal black on to give it just a slight sheen like the regular plastic has. When it dried out I saw that it didn't quite match the factory plastic's blue-ish tinge, so I painted the entire base of the mirror as well. I also painted the caps with 3 coats of universal black and 3 coats of clear. I will eventually wet-sand and polish them.
They turned out great and I think they look awesome on my truck. The visibility these things offer is simply awesome!
