New tread shouldn't cost you a 1000 for a hwy tire. The Goodyear SRA ride good, cheap, and wear out quick that's why they are factory tires on a lot of new trucks. My sra's lasted 26k on my old titan. I'd just keep an eye on them and start shopping for new tires within a few thousand miles.

my SRA's that came on my 2013 F-150 are the biggest pieces of embarrassing crap ever. Dry rot cracks all over and wearing out much too fast. I would never buy Goodyear as a replacement. I have only 20,000 miles and they look like total garbage.

I'll get right on that. lol

I think I'll stick to my original idea, and have Discount Tire take a look at the slice on the edge.

How deep is the cut? Stick a feeler gauge in there (or something thin) and measure the depth then make your decision based on the depth of the slice.
Show up at DT and they have you! You're concerned over the slice in your tire they'll only play on your panic level and try to sell you a new set of tires...that's what they're in business for.
I buy all my tires online most tire shops can't compete with those prices. I went to Townfair Tire and they had to price match according to their guarantee...that guy hated me when I left with my new tires. The package price reduced by nearly $250 (tires, mounted, alignment and balanced).
The famous line they'll throw in is the shipping cost you have to pay needs to be figured into the tire cost. That's what, most of the time, will get you. But shipping on those tires was free. He verified in on their website and was pissed. So the tire cost was $60/tire cheaper.

My experience with Discount Tire is exactly what you experienced, I've never had anything like what RogueGT said.

Yes, I've always had good experiences at Discount Tire. They have even patched up two of my tires (that I didn't buy there) for free.
