Genos 9" android tablet install

I'm in CA, 100+ degrees at times. Never had any issues with heat that could potentially cause a fire.. Most tablets and such nowadays are equipped with a cool down mode when the tablet gets too hot to function properly so it's safe to say they're designed to handle the heat
My plan, like I said, was to run it off of a 2nd 12v battery and 3.7v converter. I'm not sure what kind of small 8-20ah battery would like being charged off of an alternator though.
Good to hear you haven't had any issues in Cally though. We get stints of 100+ here too. Also <0 on occasion. If we're lucky, not in the same week haha.

I'm not so much worried about the tablet itself, but the battery. I had a Macbook Pro battablet swell up and burst the case.

On 2 separate snowmobile trips where the truck sat in extreme cold for a few days with out being started the tablet battery died. All that I had to do was start the tablet by holding the power button on it (manually rather than automatically with tasker). Which brings me to my next point. Make sure you have some way to access the power button without having to take your dash apart in case you have to do a reboot. The way my tablet is positioned the button faces up. The little rubber mat that sits right under the screen showing the radio station lifts out easily. I drilled a big hole under there and I am able to stick my finger in ther to press the button. Then with the rubber mat back in place you would never know the hole was there.

Btw, for anyone willing to do some fabrication, fifield fabrication makes custom slider kits.. Jamie made me one for my lg g pad that I'm going to replace my full sized ipad with.
Slides in and out in seconds, and I noticed that many members can't pull there's out.. not a bad option to have

One more question for those that have done this.
When using the tablet for navigation, will the audible directions play over sync when you are on another source like FM or satellite? I tried it out with my iPhone and there is an option in the Maps app to enable this called HFP. I tried hooking my work S4 up via USB and couldn't get anything like it.
The HFP acts like a call on the display in the truck, has a timer and "ends" after each direction. It works OK except it takes a while to hang up which is a little annoying. Just wondering if there is a smoother way of doing this in Android.
I'm really going to have a hard time holding off on this. The wife keeps telling me "no changing the new truck... that's why we got a new one so you don't have to work on it."

Major Update:
The folks over at obdCANEX.com have made substantial progress on an android app that will allow us to control the radio functions. The app requires an obdlinkMX bluetooth module, found here: http://obdcanex.com/o/hardware/obdli...ers/obdlink-mx also you can probably find it on . I have been emailing the company for quite a while now and they've just sent me a test app that works almost entirely perfect besides for the tune rocker which they are currently addressing. I don't believe I am allowed to post the .apk publicly, but I urge you all to shoot them an email and offer to help test out the app!
Short Demonstration:
EDIT: Video will be up when I figure out how to make it work..
But it looks like this

Interesting app idea...
I've been able to duplicate steering wheel controls. I didn't think the radio buttons used the data bus like that when they plug into the box directly. Guess I might fool around with it again.
Edit:
Found stereo controls address. Now I just have to remember how to code in Java.
You don't really need that expensive odb for this but a secure odb interface is always good idea if your going to leave plugged in. The eBay ones can be modified as shown here. http://forscan.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4
Do keep in mind you can not access both protocols at same time. Different pins on connector and the chip can only speak to one at a time. You could maybe use some sort of splitter cable and have two devices but with rarely needing stereo controls that is excessive.
