Default Gas Leak while filling

I thought I saw a thread on this before but cant seem to find it. Anyone have this issue while filling their tank? It started leaking under the truck...so i looked at where it was coming from, and it seems to be leaking near the top area (closer to where the pump goes in) and the gas runs down the rubber gas tube which goes to the actual tank.

Also...the only diffence was that i was parked with my gas opening on the farther side of the truck from the pump, so they had the hose going over the bed, and the pump was upside down while pumping...but i've done this before with no issues before...untill today.....

oh...and it was only filled to 3/4 of a tank when it started leaking

mines leaked before, but only when topping it off super full, im sure it was coming out the overflow, possible problem that you were having too with it inserted at a wierd angle, maybe was hitting the overflow spot just right, lol! I bet it doesnt happen if you do it right.

Did you have the pump all the way in? I think it might be coming out of the overflow.

Can I ask why you are running the hose across the bed and not just pulling in with the tank on the side of the pump?

Yeah, Im from NJ so we dont pump our own gas here The reason I had to park withthe tank on the oppisite side of the pump was b/c there were tons of cars at the cheep station, and of course the line was4 cars deep at the other pump. Also since i have a Diamondback cover...i dont care if the hose lays across the top.

I wonder if the guy jsut dindt have the nozzle right...he's the one that stopped the filling b/c he saw it leaking out. Wheni went to go check all i could see was that the gas was leaking near the top area. Im guessing you guys are right that its the over flow b/c the upper system of the tank should be a "closed" system, and it should throw a code if there was a leak in the gas tube area...right? since its presurized

I don't think these systems ARE 'pressurized', at least not like the old systems...are they? With the capless filler tube I am not sure how this would work.
I agree with others on the overflow idea....I have done this same thing myself. Sucks to get fuel all over your $500 dress shoes.
Not that I'll EVER have that expensive of shoes....lol!

Doesn't the overflow go to the fuel canister?

There is no fuel canister. It just goes on the ground usually only if you are topping it off really full.

I fill up until the pump shuts off automatically. If I try to top it off it will come out the overflow.
