Mine broke too. I used duct tape until the new one came in. There is a small piece in back that "pops" as it was told to me. I have a 2010 Lariat and it was covered under warranty. Fixed in just a few minutes.

It can't be repaired; the same thing happen to my truck couple months ago, the repair is something like 130 at the dealer.
There are more people with this case, you can try to search here in the forum, and all of them state that needs to be replaced. And like i said, it is not really expensive repair.
I recommend you to get a cap lock, just in case that door gas broke again and you are afraid that dust or any substance can get inside the gas tank doe to no cap.
