Topic: FX4 vs Lariat
Some have labeled the FX4 the sporty-off-road truck lacking the 4 wheel auto option that its business-causal counterpart the Lariat has. Pricing should not limit your decision because there are some many price variations within each class. It really depends on your personal preference.

FX4 vs Lariat - differences?

I traded a 2011 FX4 for a 2013 Lariat.
The main driver was I wanted 4A - great feature on icy or snow covered roads and you can just leave it engaged unlike 4HI.
Did find one odd thing with the Lariat - no power folding regular mirrors (towing mirrors do have this feature I believe).
My 2011 FX had the Luxury Package which included power folds.
Found it a bit weird that the next trim level up didn't have these standard let alone them not being available (my dealer told me this)
My truck has the 502A package so I just assumed that it did.
There both great trucks, comes down to appearance mostly.

You're talking about the regular mirrors where you just have to pull back on the mirror adjust **** right? If so my Lariat has it and i got the mid range package just so I didn't have that silly floor gear select lever.
My point is if that's what you were referring to if it isn't standard with the base Lariat (2013 and up I'd assume) it IS included with the mid range package or luxury package.

I've always had lariats until I saw the aweful new wood grain in them. I opted for the fx4 then. Really liked the black on black ext/int with the silver trim panels. Had a kr before to and really wasn't all that impressed with it. The leather was more comfortable but that's the only thing that set it apart. If I went back to a superduty though, it'd be a platinum with pecan leather.

Personal taste. You don't like the look of chrome and faux wood.... buy something else than a Lariat. I despise chrome on the exterior of certain vehicles and Ford trucks is one of them. The rest comes out in a wash unless auto 4x4 is important to you which to me having it for about 15 years in gm trucks and never using it... well it wasn't. Oddly enough my insurance company classifies my truck as a Lariat... it makes no sense but that is what the database spot out for my vin. Oh well lol.

Was told by the dealer that the truck didn't have the power fold option but would have with the tow mirrors
Was going to do a fuse check but after my dealer gave me his response I didn't bother.
Will have to talk to them again - appreciate your comments

Wrong Sir, I just traded in my lariat not willingly (long sad story) for a FX4 Luxury edition pkg. & I have all options on the FX4 that I had on Lariat with a few extra. The FX4 has to many options to list mine has I believe 32 or 35 like leather heated front seats tilt leather steering wheel Air of course, cruise cont. dimming headlights elec. sliding r. win. factory tinted r. windows elec. locking rear end w/ limited slip, directional's. in heated mirrors elec. locks back up sensors and so on I don't have every option in ether truck. Both have the tow pkg & on board computer but the FX4 has the MAX tow pkg, & I added a Matric front bumper w/fog lights & smittybuilt winch, the front bumper - winch w/ Ridge light bar well they just didn't fit the Lariats looks but look right at home on the FX4.On the other hand 37 in. tires & lift kit would have looked good on the Lariat as well as they do on the FX4.The other few things the FX4 had the Lariat did not was back up camera or touch screen it could have but I can only afford preowned trucks so I have to try to get them with at least some of the things I like & hope orig. owner picked those options. The way I see it is going from a Lariat to a FX4. I just went switch my taste from sophisticated to woodsy that's all it was but in doing so I didn't loose any noticeable options & except for the mirrors nether had or has the folding or retractable mirrors those I wish I had otherwise I'm good. One pill hard to swallow was my Lariat 2005 only had 33790 mi. the FX4 153046 what happened why, well the Lariat spent yrs. in N.Y.S. rock salt winters. The FX4 is a Florida truck. That damn rock salt killed my baby....see my 2010 FX4 pix I know I picked 2 bad Ford years no problems with Lariat hoping similar results with the FX4.

Additionally, Lariats come with the 4Auto transfer case starting in 2012 I believe, FX4’s did not.

Yep. Other than colors, rim choice, running board choice, this is the only actual functional difference between a 502A and the 402A. I've owned both. This is the reason I chose an FX4 this time. I did NOT want 4A option.
