Topic: FX4 vs Lariat
Some have labeled the FX4 the sporty-off-road truck lacking the 4 wheel auto option that its business-causal counterpart the Lariat has. Pricing should not limit your decision because there are some many price variations within each class. It really depends on your personal preference.

FX4 vs Lariat - differences?

i see the FX as more of a "sporty / off-roady" look as opposed to the more "businessy / classy" look of the Lariat.
I like both, my wife didnt like the FX seat stitching for example.
i didnt like the Lariat wood originally and was gonna cover it somehow, but it grew on me... the 2013 looks a lot better than 2012 on that particular aspect, for me.

Looking to possibly make a move on a new s/crew F150 this weekend. I'm partial to the Lariats exterior look, but I like the FX4 interior (not a fan of the wood grain in the Lariat interior).
Are there any mechanical/suspension differences between the FX4 and the Lariat? I'd also throw the Platinum into the mix. That is the truck I REALLY want, but the price tag has me a bit on edge.

FX4 has standard e-locking diff, optional on Lariat
Fx4 has standard off road package, optional on Lariat
Fx4 has a select shift 6 speed automatic, select shift is not available on lariat.
There is times when I do lock out 6 gear that select shift is handy for.

I had to make the difficult choice between Lariat and FX4, but it just seemed that the FX4 styling matched my tastes better. Things Lariat has that FX4 doesn't:
-Auto 4x4 mode
-Fake wood interior trim as opposed to silver
-Blue/White backlighting in gauges instead of Orange/Red
-Vinyl trimmed center console lid
-Vinyl trimmed visor over gauges
-Center armrest in back seat (I've heard they actually use a bit of leather back there too)
I may have missed some things, but all the other differences are obvious by looking at the exterior.
Edit: see the post above mine for the things that I missed

Shaggy,
What options can you get with a lariat that you can't get with a loaded FX? I know the auto 4x4, but besides that I can't think of any. I'm not saying you're wrong but please enlighten me.

Lariat is more luxury/flashy the FX4 is more sporty and off road based, The fx4 has locking rear differential standard and the skid plates atleast on mine were standard. The shocks on the FX4 are stiffer and the rim choices are not as flashy on the fx4. As far as interior luxuries there are package groups in each model that balance itself with the other. The FX4 I consider a reserved style of luxury the lariat flaunts it inside.
