Interesting topic. My 12 EB has 18M miles. When I fill up, I always try to find the pump with the pavement sloping forward and away from my truck (front low, right side low). After the initial shutoff, I baby as much as 2-3 gal. more into it...sometimes getting a bit of 'spit up' the last time. (Baby= barely squeezing pump to trickle fuel into tank)...do this primarily on trips when I immediately drive it for several miles...not so much if it sits in a hot summer garage for a few days. I drive about 2 miles from station to house...some residential turns and downhill slow to stop in the last block.

Knk on wd...doesn't seem to cause any overflow, heat expansion draining, or performance issues. I may be lucky or it may not be an issue... Love the truck until just now when the nozzle wouldn't activate the capless filler tube blocker thingy... after research here, headed back to the 'usual' pump vs the different 1 I just tried.

Be safe all.

most stations the parking pad is slanted, i always park my truck where the filler is on the high side. if you don't you will get an air pocket, the only other thing i can think of you are not putting the nozzle in deep enough.

Yep, filler tube is always high. Went back, checked nozzle, piece of metal tubing on tip was missing. All others were fine. Another individual was there having same issue. He mentioned an allen wrench bypass maneuver to open it if you don't have the funnel or a pump nozzle...not sure what that was or how it works.

Take care. Thx

More than likely you've contaminated the evap' canister due to overfilling (continuing to manually pump fuel after the 1st click).

First click and quit!

Excerpted from the 2012 F-150 owner's manual .....
Maintenance and Specifications
Fuel system
• Fill the fuel tank with high-quality fuel until the first automatic shutoff of the fuel pump nozzle.
(owner's manual) Don't have one -OR- would like a digital, searchable desktop document?

that's kind of what I am thinking, I bought the truck with 26k on it so I have no idea how it was treated before I purchased it.

anyone have the part number for the canister? where exactly is it located?

I forgot about making this post, so sorry for the extremely late response. I finally got the problem fixed. The gas tank vent flap was stuck shut not allowing air to vent. This in turn caused the canister to fill up with gas over time as gas was spewed back when filling. This was not my doing, I knew better than to top off on these new gas systems. It was a defect in the gas tank and with the new tank I haven't had any issues since.

So along the "First Click & Quit" line, if that was ignored a few times, 1.) How does one know if there's a problem brewing if all seems to be doing well in spite of the top offs?, 2.) Will not topping off over several fills eventually allow the canister to vent or evaporate any 'contamination' with fuel that might have occurred? 3.) Is the evap canister replacement a shade tree doityerself procedure or a shop-only project? 4.) price? Again, knocking on wood, I always try to point the fill tube up and away from the front of the truck and as high as possible to the pump nozzle otherwise, the mpg fluctuates broadly (air pocket issue noted previously). And, since they fixed the pump nozzle tip, there are no further fill tube access problems. Lovin the lower prices. . . until the bubble bursts. . . and we all know it will... Motor safely all. TL
