I've exhausted myself searching through all the threads and search functions, but to no avail. Long story made short, I have a 2013 f150 limited with the 36 gallon tank. My problem is that every gas station I go to to fill up, the pump will fill up the tank like normal, however once it gets full, either by holding the nozzle by hand or setting it on any flow setting, after the initial clicking off of the nozzle, gas always spews back out and down the outside of the bed all over the paint. It doesn't matter how slow or fast I go, or the position of the nozzle, it always spews back. No I'm not overfilling it, because it never clicks off the first time letting me know it's full. The truck has 2500 miles on it, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if I have a defective capless gas cap that I should take back for warranty work. Has anyone had or know of anyone that has had the same experience with ford's capless filler? Any suggestions?

It's bad. If it's full it should shut off. If you try to add more it spills inside the body panel onto the ground. If it's coming out onto the body it's not right. None that I've read have done that.

I didn't think I missed any threads regarding my issue, but yes, it's like clock work, you can fill it up, it shuts off for the first time and 1/2 a second later here comes the fuel. It always does it regardless of gas stations. Thanks for the reply. I didn't think it was normal, but wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong.

Just don't click it after it shuts off. Overflow every time if you do.

Sounds like you have an air bubble belching out of the filler neck after the pump shuts off. I don't really know where to start. Maybe check the overflow on the filler neck and make sure it isn't clogged with mud. Does the fuel gauge read full after you fill up?

If in the past you when you filled up, where you trying to get as much gas in the tank possible? The charchoal cannister will fill up with gas. And then the system can't purge air, to allow for the gas. So the cannister after this is ruined. The canister is made to absorb fumes and not actual liquid.

I have never tried putting more gas in after the initial shut off of the nozzle, which is when it does it. It's been like this from day one since new. I keep trying different positions of the nozzle, thinking I was doing something incorrect. The gas gauge reads full when full. I've never had any check engine lights come on either. Maybe when the dealership filled up for the first time upon purchase, they may have overfilled it, idk. I just wanted to make sure this isn't normal so that I don't waste my time taking it back to the dealer to get it fixed. Thanks again guys for the responses.

I fought this with a diesel I had few years back.... wond up just keeping a piece of 4x4 block of wood in the truck... would shove it under the rear tire at the station when filling up. It helped somewhat. Did I mention I hate going back to the dealer?...lol

My 12 has done this 1 time in 37,000 miles of fill ups... I also didn't try to top off after pump clicked off! Id say if it does it everytime, stop by your dealer and mention it! Maybe theres a fix, and maybe there's not....
