Front end noise
 
I have read other posts but none have matched up exactly. I have a 2010 F-150. It does have 4X4. This mainly happens when pulling into work as the entrance to the driveway has a bit of a large hump. When I pull in I go nice and slow and I get a loud popping or clunking sound coming from the front end. It happens regardless of turning left or right but only when the wheels are turned. I can't tell exactly where in the front end but I'm thinking it is on the passenger side front end under the truck. I had it at the dealership a couple weeks ago and the had it on the lift and said nothing is wrong. The greased my stealing stops so they said. I'm concerned more today because while pulling in today I made a right turn into my lot and it was louder than ever and seemed to jolt the truck. I guess I could have imagined the truck jolt because it was so loud but please offer advice / opinions / past experience. Thanks in advance.

I meat they greased my steering stops. Auto correct sucks. Also, mileage is 36,400 miles. Nothing aftermarket on the truck except an exhaust.

I don't understand the point of greasing the steering stops. They are two dome shaped "stops" welded to the front lower control arm. They don't move they just prevent you from over steering and causing damage. Sounds like one of those baffle the customer with BS lines to me.

Is there any play in either front wheel? You can only check this with truck hoisted and try to wiggle the tire in and out. It should be solid.

I unfortunately can't get it on the lift until tomorrow. I am trying together a few ideas to check out while its up there. I will look the ideas you have just mentioned. Thanks.

Check:
-Balljoints- both sides top and bottom
-TieRod links
-Top coilover mounts under the hood- if the lowers are loose, you'd need a monster torque wrench to check anyways- so the dealer may have to do that unless you have access to one :)
- Last but not least (and this one may seem silly to you) check your lugs to make sure they're all tight:thumbsup:

Do you have a level or anything aftermarket up front?

Because when you make contact with the stops and suspension flexes over bump like op described it is metal on metal and makes bad noises, now if you put a dab of grease on there it will lessen the friction removing the sound.

Sounds like you don't understand friction and viscosity so you call BS.

Just given your description I'd be suspect of a ball joint- but I may be way off the mark. It's just the first thing I'd check.
