HID headlights have a very sharp horizontal cutoff or focus pattern of the light - not round like a flashlight. So when the vehicle bounces or pitches up and down the horizontal line of light (cutoff) pitches too.

My '12 headlights are horrible. Granted, they're halogens and I wasn't expecting HID output, but it seems like Ford didn't put much effort into maximizing the most amount of light we could get from them. I put Silverstar's in about a month after having it and noticed a little help, but still nothing amazing. I would love to go with the new 13+ HID's, but at a minimum of $900, still a little pricey.

I put these in and it made a world of difference. I agree with Toddman34 that HID's are the way to go but I can't justify $900 for headlights at this time. I paid about $40 for these.

I also replaced my fog lights with these.

I've never owned a vehicle that's had HID headlights. Is it normal for them to flicker on bumps?

OP..........FWIW, your engine choice's are 3.7 v6, 3.5 v6 (ecoboost), 5.0 v8 or 6.2 v8.
It's not Flicker, it's actually the Cutoff Shield bouncing when you hit a good bump.... This is normal, if you have Flickering with oem hids you have bigger Issues.... Possibly a loose connection, or bad bulb!

This is a Perfect Video example of what I mean by the 2013 hids Cutoff Shield bouncing over Road bumps or irregularities....

How difficult are headlight replacements in the 13 model? They were fairly simple in my Tundra.

I can't speak specifically on a '13. I have a '12 and it was pretty smooth if you take your time. The bulb itself was very hard to remove from the socket (both sides). I had to really pull to get them out. This thread should help you. https://www.f150forum.com/f38/headlight-removal-195245/

On my 2012 F150, I replaced the stock headlight and fog light bulbs with PIAA Xtreme White Bulbs. Not comparable to HID, but a definite improvement over the stock bulbs. I read some posts about the bulbs not lasting, but mine have been in over a year and still going strong. A worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.

Would still like to move to the OEM HID, but waiting to see if I upgrade to a 2015 first!
