Looking for some personal experiences from guys that had the newer 5.4, 5.0 and the 3.5 engines! I'm wondering what common and major problems each engine has had. If everything works out, I will be coming from a 2004 F150 which had plenty of problems of its own. I know the ecoboost gets slightly better gas mileage, but I plan on lifting this truck in the future so is it worth putting the extra stress on the turbo and other parts of the vehicle? Lets here what you guys/gals have to say. Just doing my research and figuring out what I need look out for.

I don't know what you have in mind. I'm assuming you are looking at maybe the Ecoboost or 5.0. Most do. I personally ordered my '11 Lariat with the 6.2. Three years and 42,000 miles and this truck has been flawless. No mechanical issues, no electronic issues. No leaks. Ac/Heat are fab.. I even get gas mileage that rivals the 5.0 (even dare I say the Ecoboost?). Seriously thou, I'd say that the only issue I've had thus far is that I keep unexpectedly breaking the tires loose...Lol........

You will find issues people have with each the 5.0 and the eco. But either will be 10x the truck that 04 is/was.

2011 and 2012 EB's were by far the most problematic engine in those years, almost entirely due to the CAC issues. 2013 and 2014 models seem to be just as solid as the other engine choices. Isolated incidents have happened across all engines, but that is just to be expected when mass producing engines like this. I guess for the 5.0L's, some have reported a bit of oil useage. I can't really speak to the 5.4L's, as I only owned a 4.6L back in the old days.

This is my 2010 with 126K miles on it. I've only had to replace the cold/hot air (climate control) blender motor for $250 total. Not too bad, and it still drives like it's brand new. Looks it too...

not sure if he meant the 5.4 or the 6.2

the 5.4 was only available in the new style trucks with a 6 speed auto in 09 and 10 years. but its the same 5.4 3v that was in the old trucks only mated to the new transmission and with the new body style.

i mean it comes down to what you want in your truck. are you ok with 5.0 power levels and want the v8 rumble? go 5.0.
want more power? the eco is a good choice.
want more power but gotta have the v8 rumble? go 6.2 pick the engine that best fits what you want and don't worry about the rest so much.

I had a 2010 with the 5.4 that motor was great I know own a 2013 ecoboost 4x4 with 3.55 gears 20,000 miles no big problems to report

I don't plan on ordering anything due to the fact I would rather not buy a brand new car yet, but I'm looking at anything really. I've looked at everything from Fords to Dodges. I have yet to find a 6.2 though. I could imagine that having the 6.2 would cause nothing but trouble for me. Insurance most likely wouldn't be cheap for myself either.

Needless to say, whatever I get it will be a huge improvement. I've heard that the 11 EB do have a lot of problems and the only reason I have really been considering them is because there seems to be a lot of them here in MN. I'm coming from a 2004 5.4L so I had the dreaded spark plug issue and the cam phaser issue. Had 6/8 plugs break on me. I've been told that the newer 5.4's even have plug issues. Apparently the plugs are blowing out of the cylinders?

I had 70,000 miles on my 2010 5.4 never an issue never changed my plugs either

I had 01, 05 and now an 11 f150. New truck blows away old truck and the old truck is still a solid truck.

Any engine is good in the lineup. If you just need pretty good power and dont want extra torque 5.0 it is. Eco has much more power and if you drive light footed the best mpg. If you prefer power in v8 form the 6.2 is for you. They are all more powerful than the 5.4 except the 5.9 is a little weaker in the lower rpm band bi t makes up for it mid and upper range where the 5.4 starts to peter out
