Issue: Ford Remote Access app review

The Ford Remote Access app is available for both IPhone and Android users to control vehicle features. The app lets you remote start, remote stop, lock, unlock, audible car find, and there is even an optional feature to receive security notifications.

Read to find out more:
  • What, if any, are the costs associated?
  • Do you have to go to the dealer?
  • What hardware is compatible?
  • How well does it work compared with aftermarket devices?
  • What models are compatible?

I know that the design has changed but I do not believe any lock buttons were added. It may have a feature in which when the engine is started the doors lock, Sorry I dont have any hands on experience with it

Benny is right - you cannot lock the truck with the remote starter fob. it will lock when it starts but you can not lock and unlock the truck with the remote starter fob

Default Which one to buy???

Hey Everyone,

I am a bit confused as to which remote starter to buy. Currently have no remote starter installed and by doing a little research...I am very interested in the new remote starter app.
What components do I need to get this done? My truck is a 2014 XLT with the 301A package.

I looked at the remote starter on the key but range is limited. I look at the long range but then saw the bi-directional. Now, I found out that the bi-directional is discontinued to make room for the new remote starter with cellular access.

Help me choose please.

The Bi-directional kits have all been revamped months ago but they are not discontinued just simply new numbers. This kit is the most cost effective to meet your needs, It requires following 2 components:

http://www.levittownfordsupercenter....al-p-2282.html

http://www.levittownfordsupercenter....em-p-1882.html

This kit will give you approx 1,000 ft range, will confirm start-up and can activate the Heat/AC in the truck.

Get aftermarket compustar bidirectional with 1 mile range. Far superior. Renders cell app completely unnecessary unless you really really really want it and an additional 50$ a year bill for the novelty. Its also available on the compustar but I forget how the cell app features and pricing compare with factory to conpustar.

Default Confused

I just picked up the 100 series remote starter and also the Remote start app(RMU). I understand that a VSS is needed to get this thing working but I was also told that a new 2014 F150 SuperCrew XLT has the VSS already equiped. Is this possible or did my dealership not know what he is talking about?

Thanks

Doubtful. The kits come with an obd port connector and a new obd port to mount under the dash. Easy test to do though. Open your drivers window and lock the truck. Wait about 30 seconds to be safe or even a minute and then reach in and hit the steering wheel fairly hard. If the truck does absolutely nothing.. you don't have the VSS. You literally can install the whole works in the dealership parking lot yourself and have them activate it . All they need their ids software for is to activate the 100 series remote start. The VSS is activated once plugged in by putting the truck in program mode with 8 key cycles in 10 seconds time. That's it for that. Then they log in to the remote access program website from Fords side and program the RMU. My partsman did this from his desktop pc on the counter and had mine working in about 5 minutes time. It's super simple to do. I had previously had my 100 series remote start activated so second go around the ids and laptop were not required. And yes you need the VSS as the RMU plugs into it. Your 100 series antenna plugs into your tpms module on the passenger side of the truck. It's really easy to do.

How are those of you who got this liking it so far? Easy to use? Use it much? Anything you don't like about it?

I'm not liking it to much.
Works half the time .I can be standing next to the truck with the dealer on the phone and it not working and the dealer will say "you dont have cell signal " (mind you I'm talking to them on the cell phone).
I tried a viper in 2012 but lost to many options
I'll be checking out alternatives again to see if there is anything new with them in(bi directnal's) the past 2 years
