Issue: Ford Remote Access app review

The Ford Remote Access app is available for both IPhone and Android users to control vehicle features. The app lets you remote start, remote stop, lock, unlock, audible car find, and there is even an optional feature to receive security notifications.

  • What, if any, are the costs associated?
  • Do you have to go to the dealer?
  • What hardware is compatible?
  • How well does it work compared with aftermarket devices?
  • What models are compatible?

I do not have a factory remote start. My horn will go bonkers if I do your door test! I only want remote access starting. No need for key fob remote. My phone is always near by. Do I still only need the one unit? Is it plug and play? Does the dealer need to flash. I feel like such a noob!!!!
They are plug and play but require activation after install in which I can assist you with.

You do not need factory remote start to have the Remote Access system..

Your horn going off confirms you already have the security system installed which is good so yes just that one item (RMU) is needed.

I ordered both parts (including Canadian RMU) required for the remote start from Levittown Ford and just installed them today. Benny gave me a call and had me activated in under 5 minutes. Plus he helped me do some troubleshooting on the sensor. He is a great guy . . . thanks for all your help Benny!

I have learned that the shock sensor is a little odd (or maybe it's by design). To adjust the sensitivity, I was opening the window and arming the truck. I would wait about 30 seconds and then yank on the steering wheel but nothing would happen. I was yanking like crazy and the truck was rocking all over the place but nothing. I tried turning the dial and rocking the truck but nothing. I figured the sensor was defective and Benny and I discussed returning it. I went back and decided to try and tap directly on the sensor when it was armed . . . sure enough it went off from the lightest tap. So then I tried just tapping the steering wheel instead of yanking on it and again the alarm sounded. So it appears that if the truck is moving all over the place the alarm won't get triggered however if you bang it, it does. I guess this may be to prevent false alarms caused by wind?!?!

It sounds like you got this sorted out and it does kind of make sense now as it's noted as a "shock" sensor. Back in the day the old style shock sensors would go off if a passing car made the vehicle sway but these sound like more intelligent units. How about the proximity feature? It's listed in the RMU security settings along with the shock sensor.

Ya, I'm not sure what the proximity feature even is or how you'd test it.

I'll try to dig up more info on this Monday

Have a good weekend and enjoy the RMU!

I think you gotta hit lock 2x on the factory remote to arm the alarm

Actually the alarm definitely arms with only one press, I just tested it. Two presses makes the horn sound. Other factory alarms I have had in the past did require two presses to arm.

What year is yours? Mines a2013 f350 and I'm pretty sure it takes 2 presses. I'll have to test it.
