I posted in the other thread, but this is similar to what I am after.

I have the 100 series installed from factory on my keyfob.
I am looking for both the 200 series bidirectional 1000ft range AND the remote access system. Is this still possible?


As well...

-Installing the remote access system ontop of just the 100 series system means my factory keyfob remote start buttons CONTINUE to function?

-Installing the 200 series system overtakes the 100 series and means my factory keyfob remote start buttons NO LONGER function?
-Installing both remote access and 200 series overtakes 100 series and again my factory keyfob remote start buttons NO LONGER function?

Basically, the 200 series system's seperate FOB replaces the factory keyfob remote start buttons completely.

Would be nice to have all of the FOBS remain working...but I'll take the 1000ft range over factory fob

I'm about 90% sold on getting the 200 series (with extra fob) and the remote access system.
I have a Viper 5901 remote start and alarm system that I pulled from my last vehicle...and theyre looking at $300 to install that system...so for a few hundred more I can have a factory plug and play system with the same/some better features/some worse...




Sim ID number is attached to the RMU (or RMST?) unit...if you havent installed it (or had the dealer installed it) and simply downloaded the app, it won't work. You need additional parts.

Come back and tell us how much better the Viper was than the factory if you do that, haha! I went compustar 1 mile range and love it!

My last vehicle I started with a compu-star alarm/remote start system...I immediately had them rip the system out when I ran into this issue:

2008 Dodge Charger:
1) Get in vehicle and start up as normal
2) With key in ignition, hit the remote start button on keyfob
3) Turn key off and remove
4) Vehicle is still on (as per remote start), with no key in the igniton.
5) Put vehicle in drive and THE VEHICLE DRIVES WITHOUT A KEY IN THE IGNITION.

Absolute ****ing garbage. I drove around a parking lot for the length of the remote-start timer, with the keys sitting in the passenger seat. I hit the brakes, changed gears, etc. Could it have been a bad installer? Probably, but the system was completely unsecure the way it was setup so I had them rip it out.
That was when I replaced the Compustar system with the Viper 5901 and never had any problems whatsoever...great range, always gave you feedback, etc. I managed to get the Viper 5901 pulled out of my vehicle before I traded it in for the F150.
The only reason I'm not getting it put on the F150 is because of the idea of a fully factory plug and play system under warranty sounds so much better than an aftermarket patch job install. The viper system is great, and if you get a good installer there is nothing to worry about....I just like the idea of them not tapping into my vehicles wiring while I still have a warranty.

If you look at the annual price for a Viper Smart Start system ($70) and compare it to the Ford Remote Access ($50), it's an easy choice for pretty similar options. Add to that the idea that the Ford system is plug and play, no splicing or risk of bad-installers/wire issues...my choice right now is the Ford system.
When I no longer have a warranty on this truck and want a bit more of a security system and 1 mile range (Can't beat the range on a viper system!) I'll toss the Viper system into the truck.
The factory 100 series remote start system is good if you plan to start your car within 50ft...but outside of that range it is absolutely terrible, and only being a 1-way system is hard if you dont have line of sight to the vehicle to tell if it started or not.

Haha, yikes! Ya bad installer for sure, when I hit my brakes it dies. I've done this a few times as I forget the keys are still in my pocket. I had the factory 100, garbage! The new compustar is plug and play just like factory. I have the alarm combo as well. It's cheap and easy to pull it and install on the next vehicle I get, since they are plug and play now. I'm sure the newer vipers are the same. Compustar is 50 a year for phone app plus if you buy 3 years at once you save 30$ but it's a 1 mile range so you don't even need it at all then, unless you just want it for the cool factor. I opted not to get it but can add it if I want. Had it for 2 months now, I'll never get the cell app. 1 mile is plenty.

The factory key/100 remote start still works even with the 200 series remote start installed . If you are going that way don't forget to order the antenna (DL3Z-15603-C) --Bidirectional FOB(9G1Z-15K601-A) . The remote access app will work with this set up, you will have three different ways of starting your truck.

Had no idea the Compustar was plug and play...that kind of has me checking them out now!
I basically want the factory remote start settings (defrosters and heated seats in the cold, and AC Seats with max AC in the heat----all automatic by temp), with a plug and play system with great range. Viper does not offer this at all.

Also good to hear, and good to know the bidirectional fob part number! Havent seen that one posted anywhere yet, thanks.
