The Ford Remote Access app is available for both IPhone and Android users to control vehicle features. The app lets you remote start, remote stop, lock, unlock, audible car find, and there is even an optional feature to receive security notifications.

Read to find out more:
  • What, if any, are the costs associated?
  • Do you have to go to the dealer?

What is the total price for the other remote start options? (the '100' and the '200' series starters)

Perhaps the price will be cheaper if you already have one of those. Or in the case of me ordering a brand new truck, maybe the price would be offset by the need to not have to purchase one of the 'others'?

Cheaper to get a midget on retainer. Tie him down in the bed, give him a key and demand he operate the FOB on call. Done.

Here is a screen shot of the app and how it works:

Remote Starting the Vehicle

Select the icons on the desk top screen to operate the Remote
Access features for your vehicle.

1. Press the Start icon.

2. The Start icon will fl ash BLUE indicating communication with the vehicle.

3. Once the vehicle has received and completed the command, the Start icon will fl ash GREEN, indicating that the vehicle has remote started.

4. After the vehicle has started, the countdown timer will flash GREEN and then turn GRAY and stay GRAY for the remainder of the remote start cycle.

5. If you wish to cancel the remote start, press the Stop icon.

Note: The number of remote starts and duration is limited by the vehicle. See the vehicle owner guide for details.

And yes it's a subscription service at least $50 year. As others have mentioned it's quite expensive, but that may be the entire kit. If you have Remote Start already it "should" be less expensive.

The brochure at the Ford Dealers say it's a quick and easy install.

I downloaded the manual, but it's too big to post her.

Here is the warranty on it:

BASIC COVERAGE
Ford Motor Company will repair or replace any properly installed Remote Access System found defective in factory-supplied material or workmanship during the warranty period, as well as any component damage by the defective accessory. The accessory will be warranted for whichever provides the greater benefit:

¤ 12 months or 12,000 miles (20,000 km) from your system purchase date/mileage (whichever occurs first)
¤ The remainder of your new vehicle limited warranty

This means that the Remote Access System purchased along with your new vehicle are covered for up to the length of the Ford or Lincoln new vehicle limited warranty.

The more I read about it, the less I like it, $50 year and they can raise the price on you giving you 30 days notice? The cost to add will be the determining factor for me. Sure it would be nice to start your truck from a 50 story building, or at a football game, but come on! $649? If this is the cost even if you already have a remote start - NO WAY!

That's so you can start your vehicle from the plane when coming back from that tropical vacation and it's freezing outside. Makes that $700+ investment well worth it!

Crossing my fingers this is the case.

My mother has this feature with her Malibu and ONSTAR... Sorta useless, since she can point her keyfob out the window and start the car.

Just a new toy for the Ford it seems (and at what an expense!)
