You have to consider that you're comparing an engine that has a max RPM of somewhere around 3500rpm (your dad's old TD) and this new engine that is revving to nearly 7000rpm. Also, these turbos are very small trim whereas a TD uses a large trim turbo wich will not gain nearly as much spinning velocity.
