Default Ford Extended Warranty

We just bought a 2009 XLT to replace my wife's 2006 Tundra and I've been considering buying a Ford extended warranty.

Just from my quick research it looks like I can save about 20% buying online though I haven't spoke to my dealer to see they can be competitive. If I do bite it will be a 6 year/100,000 mile though it could be less based on the low mileage we put on the Toyota in 3 years.

A couple of quick questions to anyone that has ever used an Ford extended warranty if you don't mind:

If a repair is deemed under warranty is all labor always covered?

Have you ever thought you had a repair that should have been covered under your service tier only to find out is was excluded or covered only under a higher tier?

Any areas that specifically don't need extended coverage or are there areas that are more common to fail?

This is my first Ford so I don't have a good feel on the reliability of some of the higher ticket items like A/C, steering or some of the advanced electrical components like abs or traction control.

Thanks!

Got an extended warranty on my '03 Mach 1 when it was new. Anything that makes it go, stop, turn or function will be taken care of as long as proper maintenance has been performed. Don't expect to see them replace anything visual as those things are expected to wear over the life of the vehicle. I had a problem with that because Ford stuck a cheap vinyl stripe on the hood that started peeling soon after the purchase. Honestly though, the good news is that you probably will only need the basic warranty. Anything that will go wrong will happen within a few months of buying it. Believe me, you have UPGRADED from the Toyota and you will find that problems you described are rare if any on a Ford. However, this is the first year of the new product cycle so time will tell if any components are more susceptible to breakage.

Make sure its the Ford ESP warranty, sometimes the dealership will push there warranty and make you think its the Ford factory one. Miz they fix that hood stripe on your Mach? I have an 04 Cobra, and love the looks of the Mach 1.

My suggestion is to pass on the extended warranty for now. You can always buy the Ford version anytime before the bumper-to-bumper warranty expires. If within 3 yrs/36k miles, you find your truck problematic, then it may be a good thing to purchase the extended warranty.

I purchased both the Ford Extended Warranty and Maintenance plan; gives me piece of mind. At the 7500 mile service it was nice to drop the vehicle off and return to $0 bill (paid about $1200 for the MP thru 100K). The extended warranty will probably guarantee that nothing will go wrong with my 2009 Platinum, but nothing would make me happier.,,,,

To FX4, ended up painting the entire hood with the stripe painted on instead of the vinyl. Cleaned up the look a lot. Traded her for the F-150 after looking at a few Terminators myself. I will definitely miss the Stang, but from a practicality standpoint, the truck takes the win.

Its like Las Vegas. There a chance you might win (need it), but those casinos weren't 'purchased' by proceeds of winners..

If they were losing money on them, you think they would be selling them?

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll wait a few months to get a feel of the truck and any problems that others might be having before I pull the trigger on a exended warranty.

It's just been a week but we continue to be impressed with the truck. We still have the Tundra and used it for the first time in a week to take the dogs to the vet and we were reminded of how much we like the Ford. The Toyota rides the same or better on the highway but the interior and overall feel of the Ford is much superior.

I've got an 09 F150 and I just turn 10k miles. Everything is great, but I'm uneasy about the amount of electronics, so I'm getting the extened service plan. Every vehicle I have owned has ultimately had a major mechanical issue, and all have been out of pocket. My last F150 (03) got a new motor at 47,000 miles. This was due to a fifty cent Jesus clip that came unseated on a piston. Too many small parts on these vehicles that can lead to major problems. Yes, the factory warranty expired at 45,000.
Now the question... A lot of people talk on the forums about going to "THE warranty site". I don't think it exists. Lots of dealers out there have started up websites selling the ESP, but I have yet to see a factory direct site. I doubt it exists because that would be in direct competition with it's dealer network... so, who has had good luck in finding the best price out there? The lowest I have found so far is myfordwarranty.com and their 7 year/100k Premium Warranty (100.00 ded) is 1100.00 (I plan on keeping this truck 10 years).
Thanks
