Default Ford ESP Premium Plan Anyone?

My dealer is throwing in an extended service plan on my 09 FX4 to 5 year/100k miles on the powertrain only (I think most dealers are doing this) to supplement the 3/36 bumper to bumper.

However I am looking at the 7yr/100k premium ESP (which I read as a bumper to bumper) for $1,085 online.

Has anyone who bought new recently talked to a dealer about upgrading the 5/100 powertrain they are offering (which appears to cost $485 online) and paying the difference?

I also noticed that the Ford Direct online ESP plan offers 10%/11 months interest free to pay for it.

Seriously considering this, would love to hear experiences.

My dealer tried to give me an ESP for $1950. I saw it on the invoice and almost flipped out. I don't do much driving so I should be well under the mileage on the factory warranty. Maybe I will get an ESP after it wears out.

Read carefully...7/100 is not bumper to bumper...your bumper to bumper goes away after the first year of the 3/36 ... they will fix anything for free that goes wrong during the first year...even wear and tear items. The 2nd year if something happens that is not power train or major componet..they will look at pro-rated repair...most of the time it will fall under normal wear and tear...the 3rd year even worse. I would take the free 5/100 and not waste any other $$$ unless you have plenty to burn. Talk to the dealer about the coverage as the years go by...and then be careful about mods to your truck...something's will VOID your corverage all togeather. I sat with my warrenty guy for an hour trying to understand all the options. Good Luck...

I recommend the ESP. I purchased a 6 year/ 100K with $50 deductible for $1315.00 (I also bought a Premium Maintenance Plan for $1100- 13 visits/100K). I understand that many have legitimate reasons and arguments for not purchasing, but it gives me piece of mind.

I bought a 5/100K/$100 deductible plan for my 06 Lariat right after i purchased it used. Like ColumbusGA I opted for piece of mind. I did the 10% down and 11 payments - was about $89 a month as I recall.

read again.. Ford only warranties the powertrain 5 years 60 k miles unless they have changed in the past few weeks, less than other makes unfortuneately.

On the extended, I got the 7 year 100k mile warranty as I play hard sometimes and drive many miles and wanted piece of mind that if I broke down in the boonies on the side of the road, that I wouldn't have to worry about the repair bill
